Guest guest
My 2 year old has been on Nystatin since September. His Dr. prescribed it when I went to him with info on yeast and autism. The doctor opted not to test first, and I regretfully didn't push him to. I was anxious to see if we could help him--we'd had a really bad summer. Anyway, we gave it a try and in 48 hours we saw dramatic improvement. It was like the fog lifted. He took out toys from a basket ( for the first time in months) and examined each one and played with them a little as if seeing them for the first time. He later wanted to go outside and played in the sandbox for the first time since the spring. He has continued on the nystatin and is doing well. But here's the thing: He had never had an antibiotic in his life. He has been inordinately healthy, in my opinion. (He had his first ear infection last month so unfortunately the streak has been broken.) Can you get an intestinal yeast infection without repeated antibiotic use? Could the " fog lifting " be attributed to the GFCF diet kicking in? He had been GFCF for about a month at that point. Maybe it took that long for the gluten to get out of his system. I think that after the holidays I will take him off the nystatin and then test for yeast. I'm just curious--Is there anyone else out there with an autistic child who has not been sick and on antibiotics a lot? Thanks,
