Guest guest
Here's a little info that ee posted a while back about Iowa City... In my experience there is no reason to sit around bored between appointments in Iowa, it's a great little town to explore, and no, not all of it shopping malls There is the Old Capitol Building museum with tours (free), on the same lawn as that is the Natural history Museum (free); across the street from those is the Pedestrian mall which is a great place to walk, picnic, visit neat shops, there's a toy shop there too; and in nicer weather the street muscians out playing for dimes. The Ped Mall has an outdoor play ground as well with plenty of park benches for parents to relax on. In hot weather there is a children's fountain to play in if you don't mind wet kids. A free bus (CamBus) can take you from it's stop across the street from the RMD house to the down town area, with a stop on the street between the two areas (ped mall/museum area). It runs on a 15 minute schedule. Along with this area, right there on the same corner is a small shopping mall with a movie theatre, places to eat, basic stores like shoes, Hallmark, etc. And esculators. put about a hundred miles on the esculator system in there haha Not quite as accessible there is a river-walk, and an art museum. Around down town but not exactly in the ped-mall (but the streets around it) are other neat shops. Remember this is a University Town catoring to all walks of life from around the world, lots of neat stuff you might not ordinarily find at home; lots of different cultural themes, foods, shops, etc. Fairly near by if you have a car are lakes and rivers to visit. The big Corriville (sp?) Mall you hear about - yes, it is big! It's your typical shopping mall, one in every city, fourteen thousand things you neither want or need but whatever... there is a Target there and I think a Wal-mart. Also this is where you'll find the Children's Museum (not free) and an ice skating rink (not free) and a beautiful indoor carosle (?), fancy ponies for kids to ride ya know (not free but awesome). Just down the hill from the RMD house and a couple miles down that main drag is a good grocery store with about anything you'd need, including liquor (hee hee). Coming from such a redneck place it always catches me by surprise you can by booze with your groceries in other parts of the world. Anyway, if I think of anymore I " ll post it . s. Can a file be added with Iowa info for those that stay at RMH? For those of you who have stayed in Iowa....is is possible to have a Iowa file with recommendations or tips when staying at the RMH. Someone mentioned the mall. I wonderful if people have favorite places to take your child...maybe a favorite restaurant or park, etc. Thanks, Holly Waiting for Baby Mia in China....hoping to go to Iowa in April or May --------------------------------- What are the most popular cars?
