Guest guest
Hi Penny, Have you checked your local library for either of these programs? My library has the Hooked on Phonics, if yours does you could give it a try before purchasing. My son had a great deal of trouble learning his alphabet before putting him on the diet. Since being on the diet he has learned his alphabet- phonic sounds and started reading- all in about 6 months. Has he been able to put any sounds together to form a word? Is he truly at a stand still, or just progressing very slowly? I'm asking because sometimes it takes a very long time to see the results we are expecting. My second grader who has been " reading " for two years now is still not reading the way other kids do, but is making the word after struggling with the letter sounds. Since I've been through this, I know he will eventually begin " reading " . It seems that reading is the most difficult thing our children learn. Saying that, I will add that some children do whiz right through this, as one of mine began reading at two years of age. The only advice I can give is persistency. But do try whatever program who wish-they couldn't hurt. Here is a free on-line reading program which did help mine. But they expect a weekly report on the progress of your child, and you must first take a " test " before entering the program. It is a lot of fun activities, ending up with reading. http://school.vegasartist.com/ Lolita >My husband wants >to try either Hooked on Phonics or Frontline Phonics.
