Guest guest
Hi. I'm new to the group. I have a 4 y. old son with d-cf. He had normal casts when he was born, then at 4 months he had a full surgery. After that we used 'Vikhagen'-braces and done manipulation once a day. We haven't followed the Ponseti method (unfortunately). Some days ago we visited a Ponseti doctor in Sweden (Bertil Romanus). He recommended that we should have an Anterior Tibialis Transfer operation. Does anybody know anything about the consequences of this operation? Does anybody have good/bed experience? I'm scared to have an operation if the outcome will be worse for Brage. Is there any literature that is available on the subject? Ellen and Brage, Norway. Web: www.vbpr.no Re: Alfa Flex brace versus Dennis Brown bar Hi Joyce, the ALFA-Flex-Brace is ok! They have some problems with blisters, especially in the older style sandals, but they are working on it. My daughter wears the Brace since 14 months and had no problems whatsoever. The material is very soft leather and definitely NOT vinyl, at the heel there is an insert of some type of cloth (cotton, I guess) with some " upholstery " beneath it. The middle strap is always with buckles and holes, so there is noch problem with the heel staying down. Pia has got velcro-straps at her shoes (the other two straps), but there are shoes available (maybe all the newer shoes have this) where you have all the straps with buckles. The nice thing is, that you can disconnect the shoes from the brace. I think semeda will have shoes with an insert soon (my guess is something like in the P/M's). They designed the brace together with Dr. Sinclair, who introduced the Ponseti-Method to Germany and worked some years in the US before. He is very strict with the method and would never use a brace that doesn't fulfill the criteria for the treatment! So don't worry... Dylan will be fine with the brace! Maybe you would like to check out my new homepage www.ponseti- fuesse.de - there are some pictures of the brace. mom of Pia (bcf, ALFA-Flex-Brace nights and naps) > > My 5-week old son, Dylan, will be done with his casts in 3 weeks.
