Guest guest
could you divide the pill in half? I don't know how Tamiflu comes packages but maybe you could dissolve it in like a tablespoon of water and give half of it to your child? you could also try calling the manufacturer (I am sure tamiflu has a website). > The flu is in my house and I don't know what to do! Guest guest
I just called the manufacturer and there is no one there until Monday and there is nothing on the website about it. As far as the pill form, it comes in a caplet. So, it can't be cut in half and it might not be as effective if it is opened up. Holly > >Reply-To: cfparents >To: cfparents >Subject: Re: Help!! Guest guest
Holly, I'm so sorry to hear you and your daughter have the flu. We've never tried Tamiflu, but one time, 's doctor thought Bri had the flu (I totally disagreed and still do!). He prescribed Flumadine. I think (but I'm not certain) that Flumadine is only effective for Strain A flu, while I think (but I'm not certain) that Tamiflu is prescribed for both Type A and B. Anyway, if you can't get Tamiflu you might ask your doctor about Flumadine. I don't know how long it takes to culture to see which strain you and your daughter have. By the time the test comes back you'd probably be well (hope so anyway!). Tamiflu and Flumadine are antivirals, but remember, so is our friend tea tree oil (TTO). Sooo, you might want to step up the use of TTO right now to avoid a panic. Get those steamy pots of water going in your house with TTO in it... inhale some of the vapors... add some drops to a nice relaxing tub bath. You can get TTO in shampoo, bath salts, toothpaste, mouthwash, lip balm, on and on... It's really cheap to make your own bath salts by buying a carton of epsom salts and adding drops of TTO right to the carton of epsom salts, shake, add more, shake and close tightly. This way you get your magnesium (epsom salts is magnesium sulphate) and the benefits of tea tree oil. You can also add lavender essential oil for it's relaxing, calming and anti-inflammatory benefits. For Christmas, my soon to be son-in-law gave me some beautiful white wine glasses AND bottles of lavender bath salts. (I think I like this guy!), and my sister gave me some body lotion and pillow spray that contains lavender and valerian. Those two things can put you to gentle rest in lightening speed. What a nice thing to have on hand when you're not feeling well... Some people add TTO to spray bottles of water to use in place of Lysol. You can add other oils to the spray bottle too: eucalyptus (has antiviral, actibacterial properties) -- and the citrus oils also have many nice properties and smell good too. Take good care, get your rest and think positively! Just because you and one daughter have the flu doesn't mean your little one with CF will get it. BELIEVE she won't!
