Surgery tomorrow morning

Well, after 4 years of leading a pretty normal life style with CP,

my wife is going into Good Samaritan Hospital here in Phoenix

tomorrow.

Her surgeon will either do a Whipple or remove the entire organ

based on what condition the pancreas is in. In any case, we are

prepared for both eventualities.

Thank to each one of you for the support and information we have

learned about CP over the past 10 months. Doc.

" leading a pretty normal life style with CP, " What's that?

My prayers are with your wife. A big day for a few of us. If you

are as frozen with fear as my big guy, my prayers are with you too!

Hi Carol,

What I meant by that was that my wife can go for months ( 3,4 or

5 ) without having any attacks whatsoever. She plays golf 3 times a

week, swims, hikes and sticks to her low fat diet pretty much, (

altho she has pizza once a week ). We consider that " a pretty

normal life style " considering what it could be like. Along with CP

she also has Systemic Lupis and Addisons Disease.

Then out of the blue and without warning, she gets an attack which

lasts 3 or 4 days,,,, living on water and pain meds. The problem is

she does not want to live with this uncertainty as to when she will

be stricken again, be it in weeks or months. She also does not want

to go thru the terrible pain when it does happen.

Being fully retired, we can't plan vacations etc because no one

knows when it will happen again. She has been hospitalized once

since 2000 when she had her last surgery unlike so many other

victims of this dreaded disease.

We consider ourselves very fortunate in that it could be much

worse and eventually it probably will be, so for now , the Whipple (

according to her surgeon ) might hold things off and we could bide

some time. Doc.
