Guest guest
I have a special story about Dr. Deterding. She is an alum of the SIU School of Medicine and came back to Springfield, IL in April of 2003 to give a speech about cf. We had only known Zach had cf for six weeks and his pediatrician said it might be useful for us to attend this speech. I will never forget that day. In the audience was Zach's neonatologist and the resident that alerted us to the cf. Dr Deterding said, " Meconium ileus is always treated as cf until proven otherwise. " I thought I would cry. I knew at that moment that the neonatalogist had screwed up and the resident who warned us about the cf did us a huge favor. If she had not planted the seed we would never have pushed so hard for testing when Zach was 13 months old. After the speech the neonatologist walked right passed us without even acknowledging us, so my husband and I went up to the resident and publicly thanked her. We spoke with Dr Deterding after the speech to verify we understood her correctly and we had. She seemed like a very likable and knowledgeable doctor. You are lucky to have her as your child's doctor. Sara > Jenn, > > We took to Children's hospital for years. They are great folks, there. He usually saw Dr. Deterding or Dr. Accurso. He's seen at the adult cf center at National Jewish, now. He's 24 and doing well. > > Dori Ownbey... " If I haven't grown up by now, I'm never going to.
