Hi Doc: It is common for the spleen to be removed. When my pancreas was

removed my spleen was also removed. Dr. Sutherland removes the spleen due to

patients having to return for surgery to have it removed at a later date

because of problems with the spleen after the pancreas is removed. I know a

woman

who had her pancreas removed about seven years ago and they tried to save the

spleen. She had to return to MN. to have her spleen removed. I would

rather have my spleen removed while the pancreas is removed than having to have

another surgery.

I don't know specifically what goes wrong with the spleen when it is left

in. I wish I could help you more with your question.

I hope that your wife is well soon and there is no more pancreas pain. I

will be thinking about the both of you. Shirley

Hello Doc,

We haven't corresponded before but I have followed your posts. I

just want to wish your wife an excellent recovery. I know it will

take time and determination on both your parts but I hope it will be

transforming as well and lead to an enhanced quality of life for

both of you.

I have been considering a TP (without ICT) for over a year now. The

surgery is shelved for the moment but may still take place later (at

the same hospital as Sue had her operation).

Take care,

With very best wishes,

Fliss (UK)
