Guest guest
Personally, I would not listen to her advice and keep the helmet on. -Kathy ramonafe wrote: Hi, My son is 9 1/2 months old and had an appointment with a neurologist today because he has develomental delays. He has been wearing his Starband for three months and his head looks great. I'm hoping the ears will line up a little better. The pediatric neurologist said he didn't have neurological or muscular problems. But, she made it very clear that she doesn't like the band and that she thought it might be the reason for some of his delays because it might be to heavy for his head. She said we should take it off. Am I crazy for thinking that is is a ridiculous? My son had delays well before we used the Starband. I am very concerned and I think we are going to get a second opinion. I'd appreciate any thoughts. Can anyone recomend another pediatric neurologist in the DC/VA/MD area? Thank you for reading this! Guest guest
Ramona, Which neurologist did you see? Also, just so you know, Maysa also had torticollis that resolved soon after I started doing the exercises CT showed me with her. She didn't start rolling over until she was 9 months or so. She started crawling a week or two before she turned one and she didn't walk until she was 14 or 15 months I think. Between 12 and 14 months (I think) I got her to see a PT who came at her daycare and worked with her on many different things. Maysa wore 4 helmets between the time she was 5.5 months to 16.5 months. The PT that saw her never thought that the helmet had anything to do with the delays. This said, Maysa now walks and runs and twirls and climbs and jumps and all that stuff sometimes better than her 4 year old sister. I say make sure that the PT he is getting for his tort is working. He will walk eventually. In the meantime, I would keep the helmet on. Guest guest
Shame on your neurologist!!! I agree with everyone else. Find a different neurologist for a second opinion on the motor development since this last one was obviously no good, stick with the PT, and keep the helmet on until you are happy with the results. And, please don't feel like you did anything wrong by getting the helmets! You are an awesome mom for advocating for your daughter! > > > From: ramonafe <ramonafe@...> > Subject: Neuro appt., Dr against the band, and recommendations or suggestions? > Plagiocephaly > Date: Friday, May 7, 2010, 7:18 PM > > > Â > > > > Hi, > > My son is 9 1/2 months old and had an appointment with a neurologist today because he has develomental delays. Guest guest
Ramona,Sorry for the delay in this post. I've been away from the board for a while. Dr. Suresh Magge with Children's National Medical Center is a great choice(he has an office in Falls Church.) He recommended banding for my daughter . Unlike many neurosurgeons, he is concerned about deformational plagiocephaly and will recommend banding if your child needs it. His partner, Dr. Myseros, I believe is his name, is said to band very rarely and only in the MOST, MOST severe cases, so it might be wise to avoid him. Magge has great credentials(Harvard Med. educated) and we had a fantastic experience with him--highly recommend.I hope this info. gets to you in time to help. Best of luck!-AmyFrom: L R <leilarem@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Mon, May 10, 2010 9:15:48 AMSubject: Re: Neuro appt., Dr against the band, and recommendations or suggestions?
