Questions about Pain and Swelling

Hi Everyone:

I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to get back to the group but I have been in

the hospital. I don't want to be a pest but I have a few questions to ask that

I really need some answers for. My blood work is so strange, sometimes it shows

the lipase and amylase slightly elevated and other times it is normal. Also, my

white blood count is elevated at times and when this happens my red blood count

is low. While in the hospital I had several CT's w/contrast and one showed

spots on the liver and a kidney infection: then the

other one was normal. I had another ERCP and the Dr. did get some fluid from

the pancreas and used the brush to scrape a small hole in the blocked bile

duct. I have been having swelling of the face, arms and stomach. I guess what

I really need to know does all this sound normal? The pain is so severe, but

yet when I take a pain pill it only makes the pain worse. I have so much pain

under the rib cages and chest area that at times I think I am having a heart

attack. I can't eat any food without it increasing the pain, but yet I can't

live on liquids my whole life. I am really getting disgusted with this

because the Dr. is about as baffled as I am and his Nurse Practictioner, which

makes hospital rounds is very rude and does not chart everything I tell her.

She has yet to tell him about the swelling and discharged me when I was

extremely swollen and the RN that was assigned to me that day begged and pleaded

with me to let her call the DR. and let him see e like that, but I was worried

about making the NP angry. Please let me know if I should call my DR. and tell

him what is going on, or will it just go away.

Thank You for all Your Help.

Mina,

I'm sure that others have said what I am way before this, but I just got

to the mail as I've had a backload for about two weeks. Yes, Definitely

call your DR. so that he can see you when you are swollen. If you make

the NP angry, tell the doctor and tell him you don't want to see the NP

anymore because you don't trust the NP's decisions regarding your health

care. And if your doctor doesn't do anything, find another one. I am so

sorry you are going through this horrible stuff and ban pain levels. I

hope that your doctor can find something that will help you deal with it

all. If your pain meds aren't working, then you need to tell your doctor

and maybe suggest a change in meds. What works on one person, doesn't

necessarily work on another and adequate pain mangagement is frequently

started with trial and error to find the right medicine. If you've

already seen your doctor, what happened? I'm worried about you.
