Guest guest
I didn't do it again since we started putting enzymes in his g-tube (powder that you can't put in a mouth). All I did was put it in the side/back of his mouth and gave him a quick drink of breastmilk that I had in a syringe. If you put it in the side of their mouth, they are more likely to swallow it but don't put it against their teeth but closer to the tongue. > > Icecream, if the child does not have cfrd, or if the child does, if > the doctor > > approves the experiment! Guest guest
How does he do with the powder? I don't think that Piper would willingly let me put an enzyme in her mouth, let alone swallo it!! She is really the pill here: ) But I love her anyway!!! Katy " J. Guest guest
Viokase, the powder enzymes, cannot go in the mouth. They taste awful and damage the tissue. We mix them with water and put them in his g- tube. No more enzyme battles.- -- In cfparents , Katy <baileyk80@s...> wrote: > How does he do with the powder? Guest guest
Does he have any problems from them? That is what they first gave Piper as soon as she was diagnosed, and it gave her the worst diarrhea. Maybe now since she is older it might be better, I don't know. All I do know is that I am game for just about anything at this point. Katy " J. " wrote: Viokase, the powder enzymes, cannot go in the mouth. They taste awful and damage the tissue. Guest guest
baby food peaches or pears have always worked for us. first a taste of the fruit by itself, then a bit with the enzyme, then more fruit by itself as a reward once enzyme has been taken. ( loves baby food peaches and pears-we still use them for giving enzymes) getting pills in toddlers some are different!!!! Lets start off with we have tried just about everything.Ketchup, salad dressing, pudding, syrup, mayo, half done jello, whipped cream, peanut butter, cake icing,(the most hated)applesauce, jelly. If none of these work or seem too strange to try ask I have more I just can't think right now.BeckyB.-Mama to 8-2w/cf--Nana to 2 ------------------------------------------- The opinions and information exchanged on this list should IN NO WAY be construed as medical advice. Guest guest
Is she still on the bottle? When we finally couldn't get Patti to swallow beads any more another parent on this list suggested popping them into her mouth whole and letting her swallow them withe the sucking motion of the bottle. It worked for us and at age three she can swallow up to 6 Pancrease MT 4's at once. Of course I don't know how big the enzyme capsules are that you are giving her, the Pancrease MT4's are quite small. Guest guest
Viokase is working great for us but I had to fight the dietician to get them. They aren't enterically coated so they aren't quite as effective as regular enzymes but they are so easy to use with the g- tube. Ashton is only fed with the tube (refuses to eat orally) so his stools are different than a normal eater but they are soft. > > > > Icecream, if the child does not have cfrd, or if the child > does, > > if > > > the doctor > > > > approves the experiment! Guest guest
She won't take a bottle, she absolutely refuses to take things by mouth. What little she does take, it is not willingly. It is so frustrating. I guess we'll have to go back to the Creon, atleast they will go through her button. Katy & Dawn Meeks wrote: Is she still on the bottle? Guest guest
Hi, we are using Creon for Children. They are tiny beads and we also just popped them into our´s daughter mouth as long as she was taking the bottle. She stopped drinking her bottle when she was around 2 and this was and still is a reall challenge. She is 2,5 years and all that she takes, it is also not willingly. So the only way I can feed her (she would never eat on her own) is by letting her watch TV. She is so fascinated by the TV that I actually manage to feed her enough baby food while she is watching. We are still using Creon for children and we give it together with the food she is having. Since she never uses her teeth there is no danger that she would chew them... Guest guest
Katy: Have you tried Pancrecarb MS-4? They are enteric coated microspheres. We break open the capsule and use these through the tube. There is a recipie (easy) to use so they don't get stuck. Also, a mic-key must be at least a 14 French in order to use these beads. When giving the beads orally, we use ice cream and it works wonders. My daughter has tracheomalacia, aspiration and oral aversion, so she is a bit tricky to even get food into - let alone beads. Good Luck! Donna Mikayla's mom 14 months and STILL NOT WALKING!!!
