Laurie, if you start from message number 57655 and go backwards, you

will find many updates I've posted about Chrissy.

This was the last one I posted. She was supposed to be getting ready

for her own room in the ward the next day. I will be calling her

during the week to see how she is doing.

Hi,

I got to have a good talk with tonight. She is still in

ICU, but out of bad danger now. Still on a sliding scale with her

blood sugar levels, and a low grade temp, but the nurses aren't too

concerned about that.

Apparently last Thursday (when the nurse wouldn't tell me how she

was doing, just that I needed to speak to her contact person -

husband) she almost slipped into a coma. She thinks it was the high

doses of pain meds they had her on, and the rise of her blood sugar

tipped her over. Her husband had to get a flight back to the kids

and his job but didn't want to leave her either. I know that would

have been hard to do.

Her fingers are getting sore from being stuck every hour, and her

nurse has started using the pediatric needles which are less painful

on the fingers..and I can attest to that also *L*

I was able to chat with her for about 40 minutes, and by then she

wanted to lay back down again as she was getting sore and tired. She

hopes to be on oral pain meds tomorrow or the next day. They pulled

her epidural today, and she really felt how much it had been helping

her an hour after they removed it, as her pain level escalated.

She is so happy to hear that everyone is concerned about her, and

for the cards that have arrived, she says thankyou. your card

arrived from Hawaii the day after her surgery and she said that it

was wonderful to wake up to that.

She is walking around and using the bathroom, and on clear liquids

now, and they believe that once her islet cells settle into their

new home, that she will not become diabetic as to the amount they

were able to get.

All in all, she is doing and feeling much better.
