Debbie,

That is not easy. Sometimes the two overlap. Have you changed anything in his

diet recently? What are you seeing? And what is he currently eating?

die-off vs. flare

How can one differentiate between die-off and a flare? Thanks, Debbie (son

Hi Debbie,

It depends.

What symptoms has he had in the past during a flare? For me there is

some pain during a flare and usually substantial bloating (as the

bowel becomes inflammed) and with die off I get a lot of fatigue and no

pain.

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for answering my questions. I started ,my son on enzymes and now

he's passing piles of long strands of feathery mucus. His flares are

usually diarrhea with mucus, but this time it seems like just tons of mucus

alone. I'm trying to figure it out so I know whether to go back to his safe

foods to try and ward off a possible flare or whether to just keep going

with the enzymes which I'm giving him for previously non-tolerated foods

(nothing major, just squash, some nut flour cookies, and grape

jello--usually he can't eat fruits and vegetables nor much nut flour). What

do you think?

Thanks, Debbie

Debbie,

I think that it would be a good idea to go back to his safe

foods to try and ward off a possible flare. You might even consider

going back to the intro diet and gradually move to very easy to digest

foods. You might even want to blend his foods. How about chicken soup?

I would definetely avoid nut flours until the problem is all gone.
