Thanks for all of the very helpful, supportive replies we've gotten

to

date from the folks on this list. Everyone is incredibly helpful.

More concerns and questions about our son we hope we could get

comments

on:

1.Weight loss

2.Depressed/down

3.Irritable

Our son, 16, has been on the SCD for about 9-10 weeks. Transitioned

fine to the diet. Had very little gut issues to begin with although

was constipated with BM's every 3-4 days. With mg citrate and

vit c, is now daily.

Sleep was very poor but has also improved a bit.

His daily mood is irritable, despondent, down. Had some of this prior

but used to be happier, more upbeat. We haven't observed this in him

in some time.

He has had two bad colds since the onset of SCD. One just a few days

after beginning and one presently. Both with green, green runny nose.

We haven't observed this type of cold reaction for 6-8

years. Die-off or just a plain old cold?

He's generally is a slim guy but taking out all of his

multiple times daily doses of dairy, pastas, breads and ice cream,

he's lost maybe 6-8 libs. Seems slimmer than he should be.

Here's his daily diet: (all cooked except the peeled pears)

broccoli

squash

pears

spinach

green beans

chicken soup (SCD)

all nat. chicken (lots of this all day - too much? he won't he other

meats)

eggplant

eggs (small smount in recipes)

small amount of legal cheese

very little almond flour (cookies)

very little carrots

very litte tomatoes

very little cucumbers

Drinks:

Water

Club Soda

Pear juice

He eats a lot through the day. Is the above nutritionally okay? I'm

beginning to feel that his diet is really limited.

I also have concerns that he'll only eat chicken (sauteed in

garlic/olive oil) as his protein source. We've tried beef and turkey

but no go. Prior to this, he wouldn't really eat chicken and was more

of a vegetarian.

Knowing his gut seems okay, could I introduce beans for more protein

and variety?

Supplements:

probiotic

multi vitamin

vit c

mg citrate

berberine

CLO

We've given him activated charcoal on occasion. Seemed to help a bit.

Epsom Salt baths, while nice, don't appear to calm him.

Clearly, there are other environemental variables that can cause

someone to feel down and irritable but we're having trouble finding

other things that might cause the reaction we're seeing in him.

He is very verbal and conversational but when asked what's up, he

really won't explain too well.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

Thanks!

Hi...

I don't know your name, since you didn't sign with it... :)

I want to be sure you're doing the diet correctly.

Did you start him out with the Intro Diet for a couple of days?

You mentioned pear juice. You are making this yourself.... at home, with a

juicer.... right? I just wanted to be sure, since there is no legal commercial

pear juice.

At only 9 or 10 weeks on SCD, I think it's a bit too early for some of the foods

he's eating. Broccoli for one. It's considered a more advanced food.... and if

everything was going really well, it might be fine. For him, though, I would

pull it.

You should still be peeling and cooking ALL of his fruits and vegetables at this

point. Are the cucumbers and tomatoes cooked?

It is TOO SOON for beans.

You listed these supplements:

<<probiotic

multi vitamin

vit c

mg citrate

berberine

CLO>>

I'd like to make sure these are all absolutely legal. Can you tell me what

" probiotic " this is? What is " berberine " ? I've never heard of it. You might

want to list anything that is on your labels under " other ingredients " so we can

just double check them all.
