I want to congratulate you for taking matters into your own hands. To me, this is a case that provides support for the effectiveness of alternative treatments. Like you, a chiropractic exam (in our case after the helmet) showed that my daughter had severe spinal misalignments. I was told that this is often the case when repositioning doesn't fix flat heads. It's either spinal misalignments (on the C-spine near the head) or the bones in the head get stuck (which CST would fix). Repositioning doesn't solve the problem in these cases because the core issue isn't fixed. The helmet "forces" the head to correct shape because there is no where else for the head to grow, which is why it works, but it's not the "natural" way of doing things. I'm sure that your daughter's plagio was not improving initially with repositioning because of the spinal misalignment. In our case, the spinal misalignment was also contributing to her severe and prolonged infant reflux (still on meds past age 2 years and a history of failure to thrive related to it). After 3 months of chiro, I could see improvements in 's head. After 4 months, was completely off her reflux medication and is now doing great. She is also gaining weight really well and is up to around the 20th percentile. She hasn't been that high on the charts since she was 6 months old. She's gained over two pounds in the last few months. That doesn't happen very often at her age. I should also add that she's eating about the same that she always has. I just think that her digestive system wasn't working properly and she probably wasn't absorbing all of the calories. Because of this improvement, I'm also hoping that she may be ready to start tolerating some of the foods that she is allergic to. We will be starting some food trials soon (we have permission to try her on everything except the peanuts - that has to be done in the doctor's office).

I often wonder if 's head would have corrected itself if we had gone to the chiropractor and done CST when we first noticed the flatness.

I agree with you that you may not need a band. No, your baby's head is not perfect, but 3.5 mm from 17 mm using only chiro and CST is absolutely amazing. My daughter was never considered to have plagio in her measurements, yet the STARscan says she graduated at 2.5 mm and CT measured 4 mm after the helmet. You question whether to get a band and she does have some ear assymetry, but there seems to be mixed results with fixing that using the band. If I were in your situation, I would probably continue with the alternative treatments in the hope that you could get more improvement in the ears. I'm sure that the other asymmetries are not even noticable. In the meantime, you have probably avoided all sorts of other problems by getting her the treatments that you did. You should be congratulated for doing what you did.

Upset and undecided

My wife had been repeatedly asking our doctor about our son's flat spot on his head, including making a special appointment at 3 months, and we were told not to worry that it would get better as he began to sit more. Well, my wife went in at 8 months and saw a younger new doc who sent us to Physical Theraphy. PT then sent us to Cranial Tech. We were told that he has plagiocephaly with a 12mm difference. They suggested that we get the band. We talked to our regular pediatrician who told us that he wouldn't get the band if it was his kid. Nobody seems to notice the difference, except my wife and I, and even then it doesn't seem that bad. I'm totally confused and upset
