Guest guest
Hi Chrissy! I noticed your questions and Sue's reply. As you know, we have the same pancreas specialist and he has prescribed high doses of Creon for both of us. I take 3 - 4 Creon 40,000, depending on the meal. When I first started I took 2 x Creon 10,000 as initially prescribed by the gastroenterologist. (This dose was substantially raised by Prof Neoptolemos when I was referred to him.) Even on the lower dose, I had APPALLING gas and abdominal cramps at first, quite different from panc pains really although, at the time, I did think the disease itself must be getting worse. Then, after a few weeks, the cramps stopped quite suddenly. Now I wouldn't be without Creon. Of course, there are other preparations as well but Creon seems to be preferred by many specialists, at least in the UK. Heidi has certainly switched enzyme preparations at least once, as I recall, so she'll probably help as well. I hope this gets sorted Chrissy. Again, the amounts prescribed also vary, high doses being currently favoured by a number of pancreatologists, from what I read, whereas gastros tend to prescribe lower amounts sometimes. (My gastro did prescribe less at the beginning but added that he found that patients tended to work out for themselves what they needed and what worked for them.) BTW, Chrissy, I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT SANTA JUST ADORES STORE-BOUGHT COOKIES AND HIS REINDEER APPRECIATE STORE-WASHED CARROTS!! Don't feel guilty. He's overweight anyway and should cut down on the sweet stuff! He's a busy man himself and knows we don't all have the time or health to bake! God bless, I'll send another message before Christmas! Off to yet another Christmas music evening now! With love, Fliss (UK)
