Guest guest
The carrots were cooked and cut into little discs. I also pureed some. He has had 4 BM's today and carrots in all of them. Hinojosa 3yr old boy, ASD, Began SCD Feb 14, 2007 Carrots in BM Hello, I introduced carrots yesterday and this morning he has had 2 bm's. Both with carrots in them. Does this mean he cannot tolerate the carrots? Thank you Hinojosa 3yr old boy, ASD, Began SCD Feb 14, 2007

Guest guest
Then definitely stick with the butternut squash. You can puree it, make the squash fries from pecanbread.com, the squash buttons from the list files, and numerous other recipes with butternut squash. Guest guest
Hi Corinne, The carrots were cooked very well. I gave him green beans that I prepared string style and a few of those came through too. Not as bad as the carrots though. I am thinking I will continue to give him the green beans. I gave him some butternut squash and a little bitty bit came through too. So....? I guess it would be a leaky gut cause it's all leaking through. My son has always had very loose bms to diarrhea all his life. I am wondering if he has Celiac Disease or something like that and that that has effected his behavior all this time. Anyway, thank you for your input it is greatly appreciated! Guest guest
, Please note.... I do not agree with Corinne's recommendation that you try giving your child RAW carrots at this point. Beginners need to stick with cooked veggies. Patti, list moderator RE: RE: Carrots in BM Hi, , it will get better with the diet, especially after you start the yogurt. hang in there.. Guest guest
Don't worry, Patti. I am afraid of raw anything! It'll be awhile before we do raw, a long while. Guest guest
Good girl! You know, I just love that you started SCD with your son on Valentine's Day. Nice to have that memorable date as your beginning point. Patti Re: Re: RE: Carrots in BM Don't worry, Patti. I am afraid of raw anything! It'll be awhile before we do raw, a long while. Guest guest
Can someone define " tolerate carrots " for me? Are you talking about the consistency of the stools only or are you also talking about behaviors of the child (from the phenols for example)? Also if the stool is well formed, but a funny color (orange for carrots) does that mean it is not digested? - > > Good girl! > > You know, I just love that you started SCD with your son on Valentine's Day. Guest guest
Many parents report seeing bits of carrot in the stool. That would seem to indicate that it isn't being fully broken down... or that the child isn't chewing well. But what we really mean by it not being tolerated is more based on a mushy or loose stool. If the parent is puzzled as to why they aren't seeing the stool firm up to " normal " ... or the child doesn't seem to be making any progress in whatever other symptoms are most bothersome... we usually suggest pulling carrots out and using butternut squash instead. Most kids do very well on it. Patti Re: RE: Carrots in BM Can someone define " tolerate carrots " for me? Guest guest
And what about the color? My son's stool would be orange with either food. Sometimes it is a normal consistency, and I have never known what to make of an otherwise healthy looking stool that is bright orange. - Patti wrote: Many parents report seeing bits of carrot in the stool. Guest guest
I think the color will start to change to brown as his gut heals more. Bright orange probably still means he isn't quite digesting all of it..... but is partly just caused by the beta carotene in those orange foods. Patti Re: RE: Carrots in BM And what about the color? Guest guest
Well, ..... He may love some foods that his body just isn't ready for. I guess you need to make that assessment and see how he does. You're in charge. Have you made the butternut squash fries? I can't imagine a kid not liking those! I think you still haven't read the book yet, even.... right? And haven't yet " officially " started the diet? Try not to get too far ahead of yourself. Guest guest
Some kids just seem to have a problem with carrots which is why we recommend using butternut squash instead. Most of the kids have that same reaction that you're describing(if they don't tolerate them)...red cheeks, giggly, ect. That's usually yeast.
