Guest guest
sorry to hear about the polyps. I don't know anything about them but I have to believe that if something is blocking the normal drainage systems of the sinuses, bacteria is going to grow more easily. My son is having his adenoids removed--they are blocking his sinus drainage by 80% which is why he is snotty a lot. Poor kid cannot breathe through his nose. He also just cultured PA for the first time so we are excited about his adenoid surgery (is that wierd or what?!). We are hoping that the culture was only reflective of what was in his sinus cavity and that it hadn't reached the lungs yet. Maybe that is what happened to your son too. Hard to tell. Ashton's ENT has also suggested a CT scan so I will be reading the responses to your question. mom to Ashton almost 3 wcf > Hi all, first I want to thank all of you for telling me to keep up on > 's sinus issues. Guest guest
; I am sending you a link about IgE and allergies; do not panic by the rest of the stuff on the page; just stick with the IgE mediated allergic responses-- Love to you and to , n Rojas http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages/A/Allergies.html went to the allergist and guess what/polps/ct scan/lab work Hi all, first I want to thank all of you for telling me to keep up on 's sinus issues. It all started today, woke up snotty again and coughed all last night. So I called his allergist and scheduled an appointment for today, I wanted answers. I got there and explained that just always has snotty issues and that we need to find out what is going on. I explained that recently 's culture tested positive for pseudomonous and was treated with cipro and tobi, I also told him as soon as the antibiotics stop it comes right back. First thing he did was look into 's ears and nose, guess what he found in the nose, POLYPS, Tomorrow we are scheduled for a CT scan to see what we are dealing with in the sinus cavities, also was tested for 40 different allergens to see if he was allergic, all came back negative but he said that they probably are a false negative because he is still quite young, so we will be more testing when he gets older. As for right now has been placed back on to Nasonex, Dallergy and now Zyrtec at least until we can find out about what's going on. Also he has been scheduled for bloodwork, something to test the IEG levels, about how his body reacts to certain things, any help explaining this would be greatly appreciated. so tomorrow we are going to be busy. OK I need some info as to what to expect, has never had a CT scan, his doctor said it was a fast easy test but I want to hear the lowdown from you all, And to all who have had experiences with polps, what are we looki ng at for a treatment plan? I was sitting in my car on the way home thinking about pseudomonous, couldn't this be harboring in his sinus cavity and that's why he tested positive for it and if we can somehow clean out his sinus cavity that it could no longer live there. I am not familiar with the sinus cavity issues with CF, His doctor said it could either way, one it could be from having CF or it could be from allergies. What I want to know is there treatments to help, his doctor said the worse case scenario would be surgery but we wouldn't deal with that until it became extreme. So What kind of treatments are you all doing to help clear sinuses? Well Let me know, I am sorry I rambled but this is all new to me and I want to know what is going to happen. Also please let me know how CT scans are. Are they dangerous? Are they scary? Thankyou to all!!!! , mommy of 5 years old w/cf/adhd/etc and 2 years old no CF
Guest guest
.. > Also please let > > me know how CT scans are. Are they dangerous? Are they scary? > Thankyou to > Somehow I didn't see the first post - just the reply. I'm surprised it took them so long to find the polyps. Polyps can occur because of allergies but usually the main cause in the very young child is due to having CF. That is how we found out our son had CF, he kept getting polyps. By the time you read this will have already had the CT scan. It's one of the easiest tests he will have. As long as the child doesn't have too many in a year ( sort of like Xrays) he should be fine. CT scans are the test of choice for the sinuses because they show in better detail what is going on in the sinuses. Our sons maxillary sinuses were totally impacted meaning there wasn't a black spot where the sinuses should be. Unfortunately once the child starts getting polyps bad enough to have surgery they will propbably reoccur at some point and the surgery may have to happen again. Surgery may be the only way to improve the drainage in his sinuses so the crusts do not build up. The CF doctor will probably want you to rinse his sinuses out every night on a routine basis with a saline solution to help wash out the gunk. Let us know what they find. jan

And as far as the pseudomonas in the sinus cavity it is probably where it is coming from. We have had our daughter cultured there many times to see if it is in her nose and sure enough it is. We have done nose irrigation's with saline, antibiotics and nothing seems to get rid of the pseudomonas in her nose. So right now we just do treatments so she doesn't get it in her lungs. They are doing studies on a gargle that will put a barrier around her throat so the pseudomonas will not get into her lungs but it is not FDA approved yet. So we are waiting for that treatment. We have been doing glutathione with a sinuneb for the last 3 months and we went into the ENT on Thursday and the polyps that are there did not grow anymore and when they were looking in her nose I notice that the thick mucus that was in her nose before was gone. I asked the doctor about that and she said well what ever you are doing it is helping. So we are going to continue to do the glutathoine in the nose. The CT scan is nothing it only takes about 10 minutes and the tech. are usually really good with kids as long as they know there is a toy afterwards they do just fine. Keep us posted and if you have anymore questions ask away. Deb A
