Guest guest
I don't really think that the mattress would make much difference. My son has plagio and is 4 1/2 months old (just got doc band today). He is a twin which increases his risk and then at 2 weeks old was hospitalized in ICU for 19 days for RSV and severe reflux (hospitalization in ICU also increases his risk) I have 3 older children who did not have plagio. In those early days, I don't think my kids even slept in their cribs. As many do, my babies were often held, or in a swing, or in a bassinet in our room for at night. All of my babies actually slept on pillows (we used the pillow in the bassinet as the mattress not just for their head) because I thought the bassinet mattresses were too thin and uncomfortable looking. These were the months that mattered most and my kids never even went in their cribs. I believe that yes there may be cases of plagio that are a direct result of them always being in a seat or on their back (trust me with four kids under four, it is very easy to let a content baby remain in their carseat until I have a free hand to take them out) but the majority have to be because of position in the womb up against the pelvic bone or increased risk factors as in my son's case. He is the irritable cranky twin that always needed to be held and consoled and yet his content sister who could sit in a chair or swing for hours without a peep has a beautiful round head. Anyhow, I think they are just doomed from the get go and then their environment may just worsen the issue that was already existant to some degree from the start.
