Seems like the worse you try to ignore it the worse it gets. If you have pain meds take them. There is no need to suffer with the pain unless you just don't have the right meds. The tongue looks like a strawberry, little red raised dots. I'm so glad you are on cipro. It should protect you, but I would call and ask the dr anyway. You take care and with antibiotics I know your grandson will be up and running in a REAL short time. LOL They always do.
