Guest guest
No, rice is not permitted on the SCD. However, colliflower makes a wonderful rice substitute. Carol posted a rice substitute recipe called " I Can't Believe It's Not Rice " , and you should be able to find it in our archives here. I've also seen coolrice at other web sites. Meleah Rice questions Hi Everyone, I'm very new to this group and planning to go SCD coming from GFCF for my 3yr old ASD son. Although GFCF has provided some gains symptom- wise, I feel that we are already on plateau as much as the passive GFCF is concerned, so I believe its time for the active healing as SCD provides. However, I think I'm going to have a problem in not giving him rice. You see, he drinks (demands!) rice milk twice a day (morning and before bedtime) and he also eats some rice during meals. Rice is a staple food in most of Asia including the Philippines where we're living. I can remove rice during meal times, but his rice milk would be a big problem since he knows what it looks and taste like. Do you guys have any suggestion on how to go about this problem? Also, will there be any stage in SCD where I can safely re-introduce rice? Thanks in advance, and more power to this group.
Guest guest
You can make nut milk, sesame milk, or banana milk to replace rice milk. Guest guest
HI! My children-3 and 2- just started the diet 4 weeks ago. We also had HUGE rice milk issues. We went thru 1/2 gal a day. My 3 year old is SCD by our choice. My 2 year old is SCD. I started cutting the 3 year old with a little bit of water. The 2 year old I just told flat out that his body doesn't drink rice milk anymore. Since we had rarely given our children juice before,I was able to give them the white grape with 1/2 water instead. It took a week of gently reminding and offering. I offerd water or juice, water or juice, water or juice. My 2 year old took a week. My 3 year old took a couple of more days and she just stopped asking. It was a very hard week. To help stop me from caving in, I just kept telling myself that the candida was not going to continue hosting in my son. We were recently in a store and bought some rice milk for my sister in law. My three year old said that it's Aunits milk, but her body doesn't drink rice milk anymore. So far it works. Hope it helps. :)Aimee 2 year old son, healing leaky gut SCD 4 weeks > > Hi Everyone, > > I'm very new to this group and planning to go SCD coming from GFCF > for my 3yr old ASD son. Guest guest
Think of it this way, the gut pathogens that have control of your child's body are the ones sending out the signals to " demand " rice milk. It's like an addiction.... the foods those bad guys need are strongly desired and they will drive your child's cravings. Rice is probably something he could eat again after all symptoms have been completely gone for at least one year..... and you decide to go off SCD. But, you may not want to ever go back if you see a wonderful transformation in your son. Guest guest
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll take your advices and do some experimentation myself on substitutes. I'm in the process of preparing everything (that can be prepared...) prior to transitioning to SCD. Maybe in a few weeks time, I can cover most bases so we can already start with SCD. Till next time :-)Thanks again.
