I honestly don't know the answer to this question. I hope someone else knows.

Do they add the vitamin D to milk after it's pasteruized? Or before? Seems like

that would destroy the vitamin, too... if so.

Homemade yogurt/vitamin D

If yogurt is made with vitamin D fortified milk, does the yogurt have

vitamin D? Someone mentioned to me that maybe the vitamin D is

destroyed with the heat.

TIA

I did some research on my own. It seems that cheese and yogurt are not

made with vitamin D fortified milk. While heat does destroy some

vitamins, the only thing that destroys vitamin D is mineral oil.

Homemade yogurt made with vitamin D fortified milk should contain

vitamin D.

I am not clear. Are you saying we should be using fortified milk?

My goat's milk is not fortified and we use our own yogurt made from that, not

commercial

yogurt.

Elaine lays out a vitamin regime in BTVC.

Because I have some osteoporosis I take an additional 400 IU of Vitamin D in

winter with

magnesium ,my SCD Freeda multi vitamins and Freeda B with zinc, copper and

without

iron.

I want to preface this by saying that I am not a nutritional expert by

any means.

I am NOT saying you should use vitamin D fortified milk. If you are

getting vitamin D from other sources that's fine. My son does not have

any other sources of vitamin D. I will read the vitamin section in

BTVC, but I know that my son cannot tolerate supplements at this point

(I think because of citrate). His only source of vitamin D (aside from

sunlight) is his vitamin D fortified milk, and I wanted to make sure

it wasn't being destroyed through making the yogurt.

I do not know if this is an option for you, but Cod Liver Oil is a great

source of vitamin D.
