I looked back at the list of meds not considered safe after WLS and

tetracycline is one of those listed. I've been on several different

antibiotics over the last several weeks trying to fight off pneumonia and

now my doc has prescribed tetracycline for a sinus infection. He insists

that it is safe for the pouch. I did okay with the Biaxin and Levaquin, but

I'm not so sure about the tetracycline. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

Kathy,

Tetracycline can cause inflammation of large bowel and inflammation of the

upper digestive tract. Also never take it with your calcium supp or any

dairy product as they will block absorption of the tetracycline. Call your

pharmacist and see what he/she thinks about taking tetracycline after wls.

They know more about drugs and maybe can suggest a substitute.

It isn't just tetracycline but antibiotics in general that interfere with

birth control pills.

Also, and I may be remembering wrong about this, doesn't tetracycline

interfere with the proper action of birth control pills? Seems to me I

remember that if you are on birth control, you shouldn't take tetracycline

or you may end up pregnant!

Chloe has had green snot and pussy eye goop for almost 5 weeks. We did

a round of Zithromax because I got desperate and the MD said to call if

she didn't show signs of improvement (she didn't). She still isn't

better so they put her on omnicef. I hate that we have had to do this

but she is miserable. She is still eating yogurt and taking her

probiotic and her stool is solid for the first time in over 2 months.

It was solid right after we started the diet, turned back to mush

around 1.5 months and has been much since 3 days ago. Is there

anything I should be doing to prevent overgrowth of bad bacteria now

that she is finally showing signs of improvement (from a stool

perspective)?
