My 14+ months twin boys are getting their helmets in a week. I am just like you. I will stay on this board and be a referrence to those with older plagio babies that older babies WILL benefit from helmets!

Today my 17 and half month old got her helmut. I know they are suppose to be loose but this sure seems really loose! I mean she's older so she isn't going to grow into it as much as a smaller kid... I mean she can push it up to her hair line and can move it above her ears. It just seems soooo loose. I asked the dr several times and he didn't seem to think it was a problem. I also don't think he's use to older kids using the helmut but indulged me. I can't wait to prove everyone it was worth it!So is this normal? I can't imagine her having any red marks that he kept warning me about because dang it's loose!

I had a helmet made for Clara at 18 months that had about a month's

worth of wasted growth built in. (Orthomerica is not the best

fabricator, in my opinion.) However, you wouldn't expect any helmet

to be *immobile*. So, no worries. At least it's providing a rounded

surface for the skull to rest on, until the contact points find

home. Even when a helmet is rotating, you have to give it a couple

weeks to grow into correct contact. THEN, if you're not assured by

the orthotist, they give you a way to contact headquarters in the FAQ

on their website.

I'd just be damn sure she doesn't succeed in actually removing it, in

the meantime! :) But, if your baby's like Clara, she'll give up

pretty quick (like, the same day).

My little one got a Hanger helmet at 11 months and it was so loose she could take it off herself so I went back several times and they ended up putting two pieces of foam in the back to tighten it. I don't think they made it right b/c it has always sat crooked on her face but she has shown 3mm of improvement on her flat side and she is now almost 15 months. Now her head is starting to be red on the nonflat side even though the orthotist claims there is plenty of play left b/c she can take out one more piece of foam and shave it down. I am thinking I need to try to get a second opinion somewhere...? I would ask them about padding a little for a snugger fit so she cannot pull off if she continues to do so.

Thanks everyone. I have no doubt she could just remove it if she really wanted to, but fortunately she's never been the type to care about hats etc and always leaves them on. This was Hangner, not sure where it's actually sent off to for manufacturing. A month of groqwth seems like a lot of time wasted :/KimFrom: Thad Launderville <p38thadl@...>To:

The dr has his name in the paper and looks like a pro but when he fit her the thingy (scanner top piece) on her head it kept slipping off and I'm sure she wasn't scanned great. I don't know why he seemed to struggle so much as she really wasn't being that fussy. He just seemed super clutsy and not use to a toddler as opposed to a baby. I felt *I* could have done a better job.kimFrom: Marissa <marissaevans7@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wed, September 29, 2010 10:35:43 AMSubject: Re: This loose?

My 7 month old figured out this week how to (almost) pull his Hanger band off. He grabs both sides and just pulls up as hard as he can until it is half-way off of his head. Then he cries and fusses because it is hurting, I'm sure. I spent most of the day today putting it back on straight. Just another battle to deal with. in NC
