Guest guest
Hi Val, I don't know if anyone else has responded to you yet, so I'll jump in. Your post caught my eye because just yesterday, one of the teacher aides at our school was telling me this awful story that happened to her last year. Her ear drum ruptured from infection, and she was put on many different antibiotics but nothing cleared it. She ended up in the hospital on IV antibiotics because she ended up with a massive sinus infection in the sinus cavity above her eyes (can't think of the name of that sinus area). They were afraid it would go to the brain, so that's why they admitted her. After that, she kept getting repeat ear/sinus infections and she was worn out. Finally, she searched the internet and read about TTO. She added a drop of TTO to olive oil and put it in her ears. Two days later she was fine, and has not had any problems since. NOTE: I don't recommend putting the TTO directly into the ear because I read a study showing that using it this way could cause hearing loss. Instead, if you have an ear or sinus infection, put a drop of TTO on a cotton ball and put the cotton in your ear. You can smell the vapors and this really works and works quickly. For lung issues, you can add drops of TTO to steamy water and inhale the vapors (placing your face directly over the bowl of steamy water), or many people just add TTO to a bowl of steamy water to place by their bed at night. Be careful doing this around children or pets. You don't want them to drink the water. I've put TTO in those mini crockpots filled with water to help moisten and clean the air. You can put drops of TTO into spray bottles to use to wipe down high chairs, counters, etc. just like you'd use Lysol. You use eucalptus the same way that you use TTO. However, a Chinese doctor told a woman (with CF) that I know, not to use eucalptus for more than three days at a time for people with CF because it can cause " heat, " which is another name for inflammation. However, eucalptus is great for opening stuffy noses -- same ingredient as found in Vick's Vapor Rub. So go ahead and use it in water like the TTO, or even in the bath tub (don't get in eyes with any oils). Just remember the 3-day rule. Also, there is some disagreement among aromatherapy practioners and teachers. Some say that organisms shouldn't become resistant to an oil, some say they will -- just like antibiotics. This is one reason we don't use the oils every day as a prophalactic. We use them when we need them. And we use other oils, such as lavender when we WANT them (for relaxing baths mixed with epsom salts). I hope this helps. Guest guest
Dear Kim, I want to thank you for knowing so much about other treatments for CF. I don't write much but read everything, and everything you write has been good. I got the Mg , Flaxseed,Zinc and TTO and (20 years) just went through 2 major illness at Christmas without any antibiotic treatments. But mostly I wanted to say my husband (who doesn't have CF) has a lot of sinus problems and whenever his face is swollen and he can't breath he puts TTO on cotton (only need a little) and put it in his ears after doing this for 2 nights he does well for a long time. So thank you for everything you have learned, I wish when was little I had looked up this so she would have been even better. When she was a baby she did drink carrot, celery and beet juice, she did that for about 1 1/2years and during that time she was never sick. And it took a long for her to get sick again. So Thank you for everything judy (sarah's mom) she thanks you too, as she takes anything I give her!!!!
Guest guest
I also have a lot of sinus problems. My sinuses have been bleeding for over a week now. I tried using TTO on a cotton ball in my ears. It burned and I got sores from it. I am misserable enough right now though, to try it again. I think that it is the dry air that is causing my nose to bleed non-stop. I have been boiling a pot of water for three days straight. I'm going to have a big gas bill this month. I also tried using a saline spray for about four days, but the bleeding didn't stop. I would appreciate any ideas. Guest guest
If you suspect dryness to be causing the problem you can use a q-tip with just a bit of vaseline on it and coat your nose to moisturize it. Mt pediatrician taught me this trick when my middle son would have spontaneous blleds in the summer when it was hot and in the winterwhen the heater was drying out the air. Also get a humidifier to run at night at least Maureen danieleverettharris wrote: I also have a lot of sinus problems. My sinuses have been bleeding for over a week now. Guest guest
Maureen, Thanks for the advice. I'll go do this right now. Guest guest
Dear Judy, thanks so much for such a nice note. I'm so happy to read that these things are helping your daughter and husband. Your note also serves as a reminder to me that all too often lately, I forget to use TTO when my sinues flare up! Just last week I bought a new bottle of gingko biloba, so I hope this restores my memory. Gale, I'm really sorry to hear about your bleeding nose. It sounds like it could be the dry air. I really sympathize. I wonder if taking alfalfa tablets would help you? Alfalfa is rich in vitamin K, and as you know from reading about CF, vitamin K is necessary for proper clotting. If your intestinal flora is messed up, then your intestines cannot properly produce adequate vitamin K (vitamin K is manufactured in the intestines). Doctors are learning that sinus infections are mainly fungal, not bacterial, and people with frequent sinus infections are helped by taking a probiotic to restore proper intestinal floral. I take alfalfa tablets purchased from my local GNC. I take them because my multivitamin/mineral doesn't have any K in it. takes alfalfa tablets too. As for the TTO on cotton balls. It's never bothered me to use it this way. I take one giant size cotton ball, tear it in half and shake one drop of TTO on each piece. Then I put it in my ear with the oil side facing inward, but it doesn't touch any skin. The first time I used TTO on my skin, I applied it directly to a zit with a Q-Tip. It burned like holy heaven! This was pure TTO. Now, I use a TTO that is a combo of TTO and lavender, which is much gentler to the skin. This is what I also put in my bath water. But uses pure TTO for inhalations. I also have Lemon Scented TTO (LSTTO). As previously discussed on this List, LSTTO isn't just TTO with a lemony scent, it's a specific variety of the manuka family, and it's shown to have greater killing power than both regular TTO and a specific fraction of manuka oil. uses Lema oil for her family, which is a combo of both TTO and manuka oil. Studies showed Lema oil had a good killing power when dealing with MRSA. LSTTO also has this power. The word " Lema " comes from simply blending the first two letters from the latin names of manuka (Leptospermum) and TTO (Melaleuca). Guest guest
Get some Polysporin (not neosporin, for some reason it doesn't have the same affect), put it on a qtip and put it up your nasal passages. You might have to do it once or twice, but it will make it quit sooner. Dawn mom of 4, 7 and under, the youngest wcf Re: I just got the TTO and Eucalyputus That I oredered...and now.. Guest guest
Kim, Thanks. I'll get some alfalfa from GNC tomorrow. I have also been using the vasaline and Afrin nasal spray. It's still bleeding today. What an unconfortable feeling to have dried blood up your nose and sinuses. Thanks for the advise, Gale > Dear Kim, > I want to thank you for knowing so much about other treatments for > CF. I don't write much but read everything, and everything you write > has been good. Guest guest
I have some polysporin. I'll give this a try tonight. Thanks for the advise. Guest guest
Gale, Afrin may be your problem. That has the highest rebound effect of any spray nasal decongestant. My ENT won't even recommend its use unless under severe circumstances, and then ONLY in diluted form (dilute with saline). What he had me use for congestion was baby neosynephrine mixed 1 part to 2 parts sterile saline. He said I could use it as much as needed this way. I've used Afrin in the past and would get rebound stuffiness within minutes. Some people get addicted to it. Guest guest
I was addicted to Afrin when I was in college, my roomate got so mad at me, that she threw it away and told me that if she found another bottle, she was going to throw it away, too. She was pre-med at the time and knew better than I did, thankgoodness. Literally, I could not breath, if I did not have Afrin, that's how bad it was. > > > Dear Kim, > > > I want to thank you for knowing so much about other treatments > > for > > > CF. Guest guest
Kim, Thanks for the note. I know that Afrin is bad stuff. It was either that or sleep with my mouth open. I only use it when I absolutely have too. I will buy the baby neosynephrine and try mixing it with saline. The Afrin makes my heart race. I think that the polysporin and vasaline have also helped. The bleeding stopped today. FINALLY! Gale > > > Dear Kim, > > > I want to thank you for knowing so much about other treatments > > for > > > CF.
