Guest guest
I have been thinking (always a troubling indicator!). Now, at this time, we have more generations of persons with cystic fibrosis and other chronic diseases than we have ever had in the history of this planet. That does nothing to detract from the immense sadness to those who have lost children, adult children and spouses and grandchildren to cystic fibrosis. But it also means that we have with the many generations of cystic fibrosis now alive--and newly so--a generation gap. None of us, as a wise friend with cf recently reminded me, CHOSE to have any of the handicaps which we do have. None of us CHOSE nor had the means to choose, the length of our children's lives, nor of our own. It has just been this way and is now this way--no one is to blame, nor to be particularly credited for a life cruelly cut short, nor a life of suffering dragged on. Those of us who are still here are just doing out best to help those who might need us; those who are younger are doing their best to struggle through rearing children, an opportunity denied to many with cf. And, sadly, many never get to have either opportunity: to rear children, nor to live longer, no matter what the difficulties. But what we can do on these lists is be supportive of one another. Right now, we have young, old, and children in desperate need of our help, and often their parents and/or surviving parents and grand parents, aunts and uncles, spouses and/or partners as well. Let us work together as best we can as a group with a common cause: that of having a control and cure for cystic fibrosis, and let us not let the difference in our ages, circumstances nor apparent health or lack of same get in the way. Many need our hope; let us give it freely in the style appropriate to each of us. We ALL need EACH of us; we need one another. Love to all coping with cystic fibrosis and/or other serious chronic disease at this time. . . n Rojas
