Guest guest
My daughter just received hers about six months ago, and she'll be 3 in March. They actually tried it on her in the Clinic shortly after she had turned two. They have different types I guess. My daughter has the one that only blows up in the front, it's not a full vest - I'm assuming that's b/c she's still little. It's wonderful! We're military, and we were fortunate that they covered it 100%, not even a co-pay, but we had to get a prescription from our doctor, along with some other paperwork that the clinic should be able to tell you. I could be really wrong on this, but I'm only going off what our last doctor's office told us, but I was told there's only one vest company, and it's called Advanced Respiratory. The people there were wonderful in getting everything approved for us. They did all the paperwork for us practically. You can check out more by going to www.thevest.com Tracey Vest questions My daughter is just about a year old, and I know the vest usually starts for kids around 3 or so. but I really don't know. How young can you start the vest? How can you get one- do you have to have terrific insurance or just pony up the money? How much do they cost? I saw a demo of one at a CF meeting and the sales person said they were $1000/month for 15 months. Are there different models, manufacturers, etc? Any information you can give me will help. Guest guest
When she first tried it in the doctor's office, we pretended she was on a train ride at the park, which she loved. It was funny to see a bunch of nurses and other people raising their hands and pretending it was a ride. When we actually got the vest, she was really into watching the Disney movie Toy Story. We received it in the mail, but didn't open it . We told her it was a present, but she had to wait until we said she could open it. The day the lady from the company came to show us how to use it, she was so excited to open it. Then, out of no where, my husband said " Wow, look, you got a Buzz Lightyear Vest! " Ever since then, she thinks she's Buzz. Hope it helps. Guest guest
Sorry, I really didn't answer your question fully. She watched Toy Story the first couple times and she was ok with it. Now we have a little area set up where she can watch whatever movie she wants to watch on her " little TV " , and she's good to go. Guest guest
I know my insurance only covers a one time cost, annually, of $1000 for " durable medical equipment. " Maybe the maker of the vest can bill my insurance one bill yearly for $1000 for 12-15 years!!! Guest guest
The vest is ordered for your child thru your clinic /doctor. There are 2 on the market only. Both are very good. Ypou should ask to see both. Maybe your doc will let you choose. They are wonderful . The company will apply for you to your insurance or Medicaid program if that is your payer. They will generally do all the hassel away for you. Hill-Ron (Advanced Respiratory (old name) will never take it out of your home , if they have to fight forever withyour coverage. I am not sure if soursecf will do the same. You can search for both of those sites & view the machineds there. I do not know which you saw (I this it was from Hill-Rom (advanced Respiratory . That is there price . The other I believe is $12,000.00 ASK your doc. YOU CANT GET WITHOUR RX from them LOVE & HUGS< GrandmoMBEV Vest questions My daughter is just about a year old, and I know the vest usually starts for kids around 3 or so. but I really don't know. Guest guest
Tracey, How did your daughter react to the vest at first? How did you convince her to set with it for the duration of the treatment? Gale > My daughter just received hers about six months ago, and she'll be 3 in March. Guest guest
My husband always says no matter what situation we are in with our children that if we make it their idea they are so much more receptive to the ideas. In our case, whether they are 3 or 18, it seems to be true. Tina W. Guest guest
Hi, there are 2 vests out there. " The Vest " and the " MedPulse Vest " They are very similar and they both cost a good bit! Most insurance carriers will cover it as " Durable Medical Equipment " or DME both companies will fight for you to get it, fi your insurance denies it. They do not take it away once it has been sent to you. You can find more info at www.thevest.com and ---I can't remember the addy for the MedPulse Vest but type " Electromed inc " or " electromed usa " into a search engine and you should get it. We have the MedPulse and it is wonderful thing to have! Vest questions My daughter is just about a year old, and I know the vest usually starts for kids around 3 or so. but I really don't know. Guest guest
That is a great story! Abby doesn't have a vest yet. She fights getting her treatments. The Buz Light Year idea is great. Guest guest
My daughter was given her vest weighing only 28 pounds. She was 2-1/2 years old. Nobody even mentioned to me that she was too small. They just said there's ways to make it fit. We went through Advanced Respiratory, but I think they have a different name now. www.thevest.com Tracey mom to Sydney, almost 3 w/cf Re: Vest questions 35 pounds! I was hoping they could be smaller.
