Guest guest
Hi, My son is 7 months old and we have been the helemt for a week now. The first few days he was really clingy he wouldn't play, and seemed to nap a lot while wearing the helmet. Then day 4 we put in on him at night and the helmet kept moving around (over his eyes & was turning sideways). The next day we drove to Hanger 2 hours away and they told me that it is made big and he will grow into it. They made some adjustments on the inside that were leaving red spots, put holes in the back of the helmet so maybe he won't sweat as much, and sent us on our way. He has slept in the helmet for 3 nights and tonight is #4 needless to say we do not get much sleep, he wakes up every 30 mins. He use to sleep 10 hours a night no problem but its different now. And he is grumpy most of the day because he is so tired from the night before. I agree I think our orthotist at Hanger is very rude, and has very little if any communication skills. If I say thank you he will reply YEP...And to make a long story short the receptionist lied to me said she hadn't filed our claim with my insurance she told me they usually submit it when the helmet comes in. Come to find out she had submitted it 4 days before that and the insurance asked Hanger for more medical info and she would not send it so they denied it. She told me from the beginning my insurance wouldn't pay they never have and never will. So I was in the process of starting the appeal and she was trying to start the appeal with out me knowing but insurance wouldn't let her. So basically she filed the claim so it could get denied, she was going to appeal it without me knowing and then when the helmet came in I would have no other choice but to pay for it. She wanted my $2200 instead if what my insurance would pay $1500. So I agree if I could do it over I would not recommend ANYONE to go to hanger... Hope this was helpful. If you don't mind me asking what state do you live in. 7 month son week 1 missouri > > Hello, > > I'm new to the group. My son, who is 7 1/2 months, was a breech baby and was diagnosed with torticollis at 2 months and after repositioning techniques failed it was determined at 4 months that he would need to wear some sort of cranial band. After getting the run around with Cranial Tech we were left with no choice but to go with Hanger. I liked Cranial Tech much better, because they were very professional and knowledgeable on cranial banding, whereas Hanger didn't give off that same vibe and our orthotist is far from friendly. But, we had no choice but to go with Hanger unless we could come up with the $3800 for the DOC Band. My son has been in the Hanger helmet for a week and a half and can't seem to adjust. The first few days were a piece of cake. The next few days were much more difficult and all he did was whine/cry when it was on. We went for our 7 day follow up appointment and some adjustments needed to be made because it was too loose and his left ear, the one that is more forward than the other, was getting covered up by the helmet and our orthotist put what looks like a makeup pad on the inside of the helmet by the base of his skull to get it to stop moving around. Now when we put the helmet on him he just screams bloody murder. Have anyone else's children had a hard time with the helmet? We're supposed to be at 23 hours a day at this point. >
Guest guest
WOW that definitely must be a different receptionist. Ours was really nice and helpful. I do think she left the office a year or so after my daughter graduated. I am so sorry you had to deal with that. Guest guest
Yes I have refused to take him to the appts unless his dad is unable to take him, because I have dealt with her and the insurance so much, we actually went there this week for the adjustment that they didn't do and I had never seen her till that day she would not make eye contact with me. So we drove 2 hours one way for nothing. UGH So we have talked about going to a different Hanger office. I have also contacted children's mercy plastic surgeon dept which is who referred us and let them know how they have been to us. I have received many e-mails from that dept asking how things are going and she if there is anything they can do. So that is very nice of them to be concerned but there is nothing they can do. I did tell them that I would not recommend referring people to them if they had insurance, only medicare. So glad to hear someone has a had good out come with them. Because I haven't heard of many positive things on here about Hanger. > > > > Hello, > > > > I'm new to the group.
