The last time I was in the hospital with an attack my GI doc was out of town so

I saw the GI doc that I had originally seen back in Jan 2000 when I had my first

attack. He did an ERCP and sphicterotomy on me because there was sludge in the

common bile duct. He pronounced me cured and then tried to tell me my continued

pain, nausea, and vomiting was because of stress. When he told me that a 14 lb

weight gain in only 12 days and my huge rock hard belly was from my diet, I let

him have it and told him I'd find another doctor. Anyway, I've gotten on a

tangent again. When he walked in my hospital room, I was totally prepared for

him to be a jerk. However, you could not have asked for a nicer doc. I don't

think he remembered me. After all, it had been over 4 years since he'd seen me.

I am about 80 lbs lighter than I was then. Also, my current GI diagnosed me

with cp over a year ago. Anyway, he asked me if I had thought about taking more

pancrease tablets with my evening meal. I was taking 2 with all meals and

snacks. He told me that people are a lot more likely to have attacks in the

evening. He said there are several reasons for that. One is that you might be

more likely to have a larger, richer meal in the evening. Another reason is

that all the food and drinks you've had all day may just kind of be 'hanging'

out in your belly and not fully digested. He said that I should take at least 3

pancrease with anything I eat in the evening and see if that helped me avoid

attacks. I did as he suggested and then when I saw my GI in his office a week

or so later, he told me he wanted me to take 3 pancrease with every meal or

snack. The increase in the pancrease really seems to be helping. I'm almost

afraid to say it, but after being in the hospital either 7 or 8 times from the

end of May through the beginning of September, I have now gone a month without

being in the hospital. That may not sound like much, but to me, it feels

wonderful!

You might want to ask your GI doc about taking extra pancreas enzymes with your

evening meal.

take care,

W
