Hi,

I would just like to say that everyone that is in this chat room are wonderful

parents. I don't post that much but I do like to read them, my time is limited

on the computer. Everyone has such wonderful advise and such kind words. It's

so nice to know that we are not alone in this world. Alot of the advise I have

received on this site has alot to do with how well my son is doing and I wanted

to say thank you. Also I am in charge of my local support group and everyone is

very surprised at some of the information I have and how young my son is. So

again thank you. I need some advise on a few things and would love some

feedback. First, my son COdy is now 22 months old, he weights close to 27lbs

and in the 40%-50%, he had only had one cold and really has had no major issues,

curently is on live meds. Slight elevated liver enzymes. Chest physical therapy

once a day, he did culture Pseudemonus at 10 months of age and has not cultured

since. I made a decition to enrole him to a arts & craft class and a play class

once a week, about 10 children in a class, I dont ask anything to be cleaned

but I try to make sure he does not put anything or his hands in his mouth and

when he is done, I thouroughly wash and sanitize his hands afterward. There has

been a couple of occations where I could not catch him in time. Is this a

mistake? Should I be very concerned? Next question is at the end of the month I

have three family members staying with me at the end of this month, they all

smoke and know that they have to go outside, should I have a rule about their

clothes smelling. I am just so nervous about all these people staying at my

house. I also gave the rules about handwashing, is there anything else I should

be doing.

Thank you for your support,

w/Cody 22 months w/cf

Re: Weight gain...

Hi,

I totally agree with . The CF-kids often crave for salt and

other spices.

Fiona had big problems with chunky food, we had to blend everything

and she lived mainly on baby formula until the age of five. But as

long as she ate we didn't care whether it was " appropriate to her

age " or not.

Another problem was, that Fiona was not interested in eating, she

never felt hungry. So we had to spoonfeed her and she always had toys

or books with her during the meal.

Sounds weird, but in retroperspective we are quite happy that we did

it that way. Today, at almost 7 Fiona is a normal eater with no oral

aversions and good weight (25 to 50% height to weight). It's only

that her behavior at the dining table is really bad (can't sit still

for five minutes), but we are working on it.

Peace

Torsten, dad of Fiona 6wcf and Sebastian 8mo wocf

> Have you tried things that you do not think that he will like? The

reason that I ask is that, because I was at my wit's end with

at about the same age, I let her try mild salsa, even though I " knew "

that she wouldn't like it. Well, was I wrong! I suddenly found out

that she loved the stuff. If I put it in eggs, she would eat them.

Rice too. Even if I cooked chicken or steak with it. She also

likes things like broccoli. The nutritionist at our center explained

that lots of kids with CF like spicier, stronger flavored things. I

hope that this helps some.
