Guest guest
Cathy, I think you first need to find out what the problem is. The doctor can run tests to see if there is a yeast overgrowth..... or some sort of infection.... or maybe even parasites. But there would be a different treatment depending on what it is. If you end up with a prescription anti-fungal, try to get them to write it up for the capsule form, then you can open that into food or drink or something else that's legal..... rather than a kid-flavored, sweetened liquid formula. I only know that s.boulardii is supposedly helpful against clostridia difficile. Not sure what other uses it may have. Patti Need Help...Anti-fungals? Going to the doctor tomorrow .Are there any anti-fungals meds the doctor may prescribe that are legal. Sorry I no nothing about this...and I want to be prepared. I'm not sure what is wrong with my son... problem for 2 weeks now...he may have a yeast issue in his bum ...difficulty going pooh(hurts to go), itchy, sore most of the time...difficulty going to sleep because it hurts. He doesn't want me to see his bum and won't show me what is in the toilet. I got one quick glance at his anus and it looked a bit white. But it didn't look very sore. I don't think this is just constipation as he tells me some of his pooh is soft. Sorry for the yucky details...I don't have a clue what the doctor may prescribe, if there is anything I should ask for that is legal...maybe we will just get an antibiotic.I do have the antibiotic list...not that the doctor will listen.! Just got saccharomyces boulardii today for my daughter as she is on day 8 of antibiotics for strep...SHE IS NOT BETTER..getting worse...she is going back to the doctor tomorrow too. I suppose the s.boulardii would be useful for my son too? I'm glad I ordered 2 bottles. I hope the kids are not too sick for school tomorrow as it is the last day in the public school system..We quit school!!!.and their classes have planned a special day for them....We are homeschooling now. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks, Cathy 10 , 6 scd aug. 2006 celiacs
Guest guest
Patti, What type of test can they run? I am very curious as I am takin my daughter back tomorrow and think this yeast/bacteria overgrowth may be a lot of her ongoing problems over the last few years. She hs had countless amounts of bloodwork done but nothing for fungal infections. Need Help...Anti-fungals? Guest guest
Well, I don't know if regular MDs are big on doing these.... but I believe the DAN doctors do stool sampling and other tests (not sure what) that give results on yeast and bacteria. I honestly have never had any of this done on my daughter. I guess I'll have to let someone else answer on what specific tests to ask for. You may need to see a DAN physician or perhaps a naturopath or other alternative practitioner. Patti Re: Need Help...Anti-fungals? Patti, What type of test can they run? Guest guest
Hi Cathy, << Going to the doctor tomorrow .Are there any anti-fungals meds the > doctor may prescribe that are legal. >> Yes, there are anti-fungals that are legal. Some have illegals added, so if you are prescribed meds (like Nystatin) ask what ingredients are in the meds including the fillers. Some pharmacies carry plain Nystatin with no sugar/illegals, but others don't. If that is the case you may need a compounding pharmacy. << I'm not sure what is wrong with my son... problem for 2 weeks > now...he may have a yeast issue in his bum ...difficulty going > pooh(hurts to go), itchy, sore most of the time...difficulty going to sleep because it hurts. >> A quick home test for yeast is the spit test. http://www.adhdrelief.com/CandidaTest.html This tests doesn't mean that you absolutely have yeast overgrowth but that it may be a cause for concern if it turns out positive. I did the test on myself becuse I had a lot of symptoms (white tongue, itchy bottom, rashes etc..). My spit test showed positive so I went to my doctor who did a mouth swab, blood work and stool cultures. These results came back positive for yeast. <<I don't have a clue what the doctor > may prescribe, if there is anything I should ask for that is > legal...maybe we will just get an antibiotic.I do have the antibiotic > list...not that the doctor will listen.!>> If you have a yeast problem antibiotics won't help, they will likely make it worse. Best though to see the doctor first and determine what is going on. Once you know what the problem, whether it be a yeast or bacterial overgrowth or parasite , then you can look at treating it. << Just got saccharomyces boulardii today for my daughter as she is on > day 8 of antibiotics for strep...SHE IS NOT BETTER..getting > worse...she is going back to the doctor tomorrow too. > I suppose the s.boulardii would be useful for my son too? If not, there are other things that can mimic strep (Mono or other viral infections) and she should be tested to rule out strep. The Saccharomyces boulardii has been found to be good at preventing GI complications from being on antibiotics. Let us know what happens. Good luck at the doctor. Guest guest
Sheila, Was this done by a neuropath or a regular MD? I have about had it with my pediatrician, he knows it is a problem and called in Diflucan but only for 1 treatment and then it comes back worse (cognitive issues, nerve pain, fatigue, and weight loss- 3lbs. in 3 days). It specifically states that it should be given for 2-3 weeks for throat and oral thrush! We are seeing a specialist on Monday and I would like to be knowledgable about the test. We did the spit test and it is very positive. I am fighting it with homopathic remedies but she is trying to return to school after 3 years of illness and I think it is pretty widespread after all the antibiotics she has had in the past 3 years. Thanks, Re: Need Help...Anti-fungals?
