Guest guest
Hi , > Can anyone recommend a good food slicer for slicing butternut squash into the french fries or other SCD legal veggies? Is a mandoline slicer the best or a food processor? I'm trying to decide what to purchase. My food processor has a number of attachments so I find it invaluable. I can use it to slice veggies very thin, a french fry attachment that may work for some veggies, a steel blade (good for nut flours and making nut butter etc.) a plastic blade with a lip (good for making bread and cake batter), attachments for grating veggies very fine and coarse and a whipping attachment (the best for making mayonnaise, sauces etc.) I don't have a mandolin but have heard lots of good things about them. I am a kitchen gadget person so I'll probably get one eventually (after I build a room for all the gadgets) > Also does anyone have any experience with the Eurocuisine yogurt maker...have you been happy with it? I am not familiar with this one but many like the Yogumet yogurt maker. It heats the yogurt in water which helps maintain a constant temperature. I use a heating pad and a container filled with water. It works very well and I can make large quantities. Guest guest
The Euro Cuisine is a good machine, but pretty small. I use the Donvier, which is very good, I'm very happy w/ it. The Yogourmet, seems to also be a very good choice. Good Luck! -Dena wrote: Can anyone recommend a good food slicer for slicing butternut squash into the french fries or other SCD legal veggies? I paid $19.95 for it at a mall demo so you can see what inflation has done! It is now $60. I also use my Cuisinart Food Processor for slicing squash. Carol F. Guest guest
Has anyone ever tried to make butternut squash chips instead of fries? They taste so close to French fries when baked, and I'm thinking that I could slice them like potato chips for deep frying. Also, how does one make jam, jelly, preserves, whatever you want to call it in your part of the world without using pectin? It's getting close to strawberry season here in the southeast U.S., and I'd like to make homemade strawberry jam. Obviously, honey would be used in place of sugar, but what about the pectin that is normally used in jam making? Guest guest
Try making fries with fresh turnips, cut them a little thick so they will be crisp. I usually make mine in the oven, but if you can deep fry them, I;m sure they will be great. We make a dip for the fries using fresh beets mixed with avocado in the food processor, add a little honey, if you like it sweeter, these are all brain foods and are quite delicious..
