Guest guest
Lolo, You are on the right track with starting SCD first. Some say that SCD helps the body to chelate naturally as it heals. We are using a prescription chelating cream called DMPS, and have seen great results. However, we didn't begin until about four months on SCD. Any good DAN doctor isn't going to allow you to chelate until the gut is cleaned up. You've got to get that yeast under control...especially because prescription chelaters can cause yeast issues...which is why you should stay with SCD. The peanutbutter consistency of the stools, I'd say tell us what he is eating, please. That is always needed to help you figure out what might be going on. I can certainly recommend our DAN physician, but she lives in NY. You should be able to find a list of doctors on the Autism Research Institute web site, and they would all be DAN doctors. This was my personal opinion on making a decision. I wanted an MD who had a lot of experience, but used natural methods first, and turned to medications as a last result for the most part. I narrowed it down to two physicians, then I called to speak with them, and get information packets on them and their practice. I was willing to choose a doctor within about 12 hours of me. Good luck finding someone. I'd also make sure that they are knowledgeable about SCD...or willing to learn quickly, and will support you on it. Meleah OT, need advice hi everyone, I have a 2-years-old son recently diagnosed with autism, and I'm still lost, I read a lot about the disorder and what you can do about it, but still don't know how to begin? I have doubt about going to a DAN, our GI Dr is not helping he doesn't believe that there is any link between autism and leaky gut(which our son has, also many food allergies ,loose stool since birth, overgrowth yeast). The Dr. also doesn't believe in SCD. Anyway, since we removed the food that he is allergic to , stool frequency is less , we went from 4-5 time a day to 1-2 times which is great but still having loose stool, then we started SCD (10 days) at first for the first time he has formed stool (small soft balls) not constipated . After a while he starts having softer stool like peanut butter has no shape, so my first question is his stool normal? 2- I moved to Houston, Tx 4 months ago, I was overseas where I can do any test for my son without going to a Dr., now I need to find a Dr. or a trusted DAN who works with autistic children, so I can do yeast test , blood mineral, toxin test..if you live in the same area please advice me. 3- I also heard about chelating? I need to know if anyone have done it and found it helpful at all. Thank you for reading my e-mail lolo
Guest guest
hi Robin, The problem is he is allergic for so many food(milk(whey protin),egg white, peanut, citrus, wheat, zuccini) and we will do more food allergies test because when he eats Green beas, broccoli, peas, cauliflower, asparagus he get loose stool too so I really don't have much choices. he eats carrot, onion, fish, beef, chichen, egg yolk, spinach, rib banana, fresh apple( he will not eat apple sause)homemade coconut milk, avocado, and lately tomato. I know some of the food he is eating is advanced but I can't feed him just the intro food which he can tolerate. lolo
Guest guest
Lolo, I strongly 2nd what Meleah said. (In a nutshell.) We just started the SCD and wish we had done it first. Our son sees Dr. Krigsman, please read this, http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org/0405-conf-akrigsman.htm , He is the top GI Dr. and specializes in Autism. If your son is not having formed poops as our son never did, there is a problem. Most GI drs just don't know anything about what is going on with our kiddos. We had no idea that our son's gut was so bad but ended up having him scoped on a recommendation by our DAN and thank god we did. Now I feel like we are on our way to recovery. We've been chelating with DMSA suppositories, doing MB12 shots (which are great!), plus a range of supplements. Starting with Vitamin C, Cod Liver Oil, probitics, zinc and a good multi vitamin. Please see a DAN dr you will be glad you did. We see Dr. Jepson in Austin and he is great. Hope this helps. Tricia S.
