Guest guest
The intro diet only needs to be done for 2 days.... 5 days maximum if the person has severe diarrhea. We usually recommend only 2 days for the kids here. You should go ahead and move on to legal, beginning stage foods... all fruits and veggies peeled and cooked. Ripe bananas do not need to be cooked. Patti HELP!!! Doing intro, won't eat! My 5 year old has been on the diet for 6 days now. After day 1 he was vomitting and wouldn't eat anything. Gave him water, but he'd throw that up. It's the sixth day and he still won't eat. We've been giving him water every 15 minutes or so and he's been able to keep that down after the first day of vomitting. He's eating a little jell- o but only with the bribery of water. We're worried since it's been so long since he's eaten. Anyone else been through this? Guest guest
Several people have children go on strike for the beginning of the diet. I believe that the record is nine days for Ilene who started her son in the summer. Hopefully, some of these moms will post encouragement and insite. Don't worry. They always come around eventually. Guest guest
Hi Terry, Hang in there. Did you try the chicken broth.....I f he does not like store bought one try a home made broth. I made carrot soup in the intro diet.I am not sure if it is allowed but here is the recipe. In pressure cooker add oil and fry onion(1/2) and few ginger pieces. Then add carrots cut up fry for 2 minutes add salt and pressure cook till carrots are vry soft. Add a few cilantro leaves now. And blend it in the blender. Return it to the vessel and warm it and addd pepper. serve wrm.Hope it helps. It is a very hard diet if you have other allergies. Mine had egg, diary and nut allergy...So could not give him those. If you can give eggs, then you should be fine....mix grated zucchini with eggs nad make an omelette. SAM. Terri Hilliard wrote: My 5 year old has been on the diet for 6 days now. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. Since he's been on the diet 6 days now, can I try offering him really ripe bananas? Those were always his favorite. Thanks! Terri HELP!!! Doing intro, won't eat! My 5 year old has been on the diet for 6 days now. After day 1 he was vomitting and wouldn't eat anything. Guest guest
One thing I do when my boys are on a hunger type strike is to add several ounces of cold chicken broth to a few ounces of legal juice. My boys drink it and get the good minerals and protein. Guest guest
Terri, Yes,give him VERY RIPE bananas. After a few days, try blending the bananas and make popsicles out of them. Once he gets used to banana popsicles, then try to add TINY amounts of meat or veggies inside the popsicles. > > Thanks for the reply. Guest guest
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Store bought chicken broth is not allowed on SCD. It must be homemade. Check out the recipe in Breaking the Vicious Cycle. It is super easy. Meleah SCD 05/06 Re: HELP!!! Doing intro, won't eat! Hi Terry, Hang in there. Guest guest
Hi there, I find it unclear from your initial letter....Are you sure that this is a " power struggle " kind of issue and not that your son is genuinely ill? I'd hate for a secondary medical issue to go untreated b/c it gets chalked up to being a hunger strike. Good luck. I hope that this resolves quickly and you find that the diet is a big help for your son. Guest guest
Hi there, After you rule out a virus, or some other health issue that could be happening, you may discover that this is " die off " and a good dose of withdrawal from the foods that your child may have become addicted too. This transition is not easy for some of us. We are eating SCD as a family of five. It destroyed my appetite, and that of all of us. That first few weeks we ate because we had to. Die off makes one feel like they have the flu! Truly horrible. My son would just cry at the table. SCD is saying good bye to many addictive foods. THIS is what we did that helped: a.. Activated Charcoal one hour before and one hour after meals b.. Warm soaks in a deep tub with Epsom salts (one small box per full tub). c.. If diarrhea is under control, only eat intro for the prescribed two days, and get on with the diet (as outlined in BTVC). There are many recipes that are truly enjoyable and help a bit with the cravings. Of course respecting the digestibility of foods. Early on many things do not digest that well. www.pecanbread.com<http://www.pecanbread.com/> has stages that you might find helpful. These are only guidelines and not meant to drive you crazy. Chapter 9 and 10 have to be followed though, if you want the vicious cycle to be broken. d.. I strongly suggest that like we did, reread your book. e.. We tried to have fun. Enjoying life in other ways that always letting it revolve around food. Once he starts to feel better, get out of the house and celebrate life the best you can at this time. Hope this helps you, It does get better I promise! All five of us are proof of it!
