I'm not good with the supps, and he doesn't have a wide variety in the diet.

I'm wondering about the apples. Dana, didn't you have to pull apples for

and Garrot? I seem to remember you saying the apples, honey, and bannanas

caused problems for them. It's obvious that something is still bothering him,

or he wouldn't be pressing on his tummy. It's been 28 days. I know it would be

a pain, but have you thought about doing intro just for one or two days again?

Oh, the carrots. Some people don't do well with the carrots for some reason.

Maybe use acorn or butternut squash in place of those. I can't tell you how

many times we went back to intro for a day or two in the first few months of SCD

because I was trying to figure out if certain things were bothering him.

SCD 1 mth should I back up a little?

Hello all you wonderful people that answer these newbie qustions!

(I'm not brown nosing, just spreading the love.)

I have a question. My son, 3 1/2, on the diet for 28 days is still

having intermitent constipation, mushy poops, 4 formed poops, and

pressing his belly off and on. We are trying to watch for reactions

but it is so hard to read sometimes. I'm not expecting a complete

turnaround this quickly but just want to make sure I'm doing my best

for him and that we are on track.

Here's what he eats now:

chicken and beef pancakes with green beans and carrot in them,

scrambled eggs, cooked apples and pears, broiled fish fillets,

apple/pear sauce to hide vitamins, we just removed carrot curls for a

few days (worried about all the oil), just introducted very ripe

bananas, banana pancakes (worried about bananas but would hate to

remove them again), just added zucchini and yellow squash- cooked and

deseeded , however I added them at the same time because I was tryng

to make meat loaf.

here's his supplements:

ASD Plex, all SCD legal vitamins: c 500mg, calcium citrate 300 mg,

two tsp CLO, 1/2 tsp Finest Fish oils, SCDophlis (just started 3 days

ago), zinc 40 mg, melatonin 100mg with magnesium at bedtime. Epsom

salt baths nightly, activated charcoal as needed. Oh, we're starting

prednisone for 35 days.

I'm just asking for some sage advice.

Thanks for your help.

It's not at all uncommon to have sort of ups and downs in the beginning.

Healing doesn't just go in a straight line upward.... there are peaks and

valleys. If you want to try pulling carrots out for a while.... see how it

goes, then reintroduce them, that might be a good idea. Some kids just don't

seem to digest them well.

If constipation is more of an issue, just be aware that cooked apples and ripe

bananas *can* somewhat contribute to that. Both are somewhat " binding " ....

which is helpful when someone has diarrhea, but not so helpful if one tends to

be the opposite.

Personally, I would have probably advised you to pull all or most of these

supplements as you started the diet..... adding them back very gradually. I

have seen a lot of families really struggle in the beginning with lots of supps

on board. I sure wish everyone would get the diet going well first. The one

called " Finest Fish Oil " .... I've not heard of that one. You're sure this is

legal? You don't say how much magnesium he's getting.... or what form it's in.

That might make a difference.

Also.... I just don't know how the prednisone affects things. That's a variable

that I don't know what to expect with, having no experience with it. Is that

something he has to take ongoing.... indefinitely?

Most of all, just have patience. 28 days is not very long at all to have been

on this diet. There are BIG changes going on in his gut.
