Guest guest
Hello Everyone! I am new to SCD. It will be 2 month in one week. My quick background is: - UC for about 7 years - Sulfasilazine, Colozal, Probiotics - most of the time long flareups that lasted for 2-4 month. - 2-3 flare ups a year - blood, mucus, diarrhea and the whole nine yards - last 2 years, the flare ups became very severe. i get very weak, loose lots of weight and so on - last year something happened and i went into remission for 1 year. No special diet but introduced VSL #3 probiotic. I was put on Colozal and for a year i forgot that I was ill. - Came back from Europe in the begging of January and had a massive flareup. 20-25 BM a day. lost 25 pounds. - Colonoscopoy revealed that my UC spread. - The doc put me on prednisone, and went back to Sulfasilazine. Slowly going off from prednisone right now. - Started SCD 2 month ago because nothing else was helping. I am on strict diet. Was on the intro diet for about 3-4 weeks. Making yogurt and the nut bread. Slowly introducing foods and still on a very restrictive SCD diet. No raw vegetables. Only a handful of cooked vegetables so far. I am not going into remission. I am better then during the peak, but I am still bleeding and about 2-3 BM a day. I am not sure that the diet is working for me. I am reading people are seeing significant improvements in a week or two. I can't say that for myself. Even if I am improving, then at very very slow pace and probably the same way as prior to the diet. Plus the prednisone must be helping as well. I gave myself 3 month time frame to re-evaluate the diet. How long does it usually take for people to go back into remission on the diet? Are there are people that this diet doesn't help or doesn't help completely? What is the proper way to gage the effectiveness of the diet on an individual level? I am not discouraged by the diet, but it would be helpful to know how many people are on the diet without fully going back into remission. The intro diet is not meant to be followed for more than five days. Baking wuth nut flour is for those who are advanced, nut butter is easier to digest. Did you introduve yogurt very gradually and use goat's milk? The diet may not be for everyone but we have seen an improvemnet rate in about 80% on this list and it is higher in sveral clinics and under the DAN doctor, Sydney Baker. I am celiac and have been on the diet for 7 years but cannot revert to a standard American XDiet. I am happy with SCD food and my symptoms are under control when I adhere to it. I have had an occasional former food but never corn, grain, soy or rice. I never took drugs as it was Prednisone that seemes to zap my immune system in the first place but I know it is vital in some cases. I never had bleeding or diaharrea. Carol F.
