Guest guest
Yes, that's why I am wondering about the ones listed on the website as legal -- does someone keep in touch with the companies to make sure they are still legal? - carolfrilegh wrote: > > I must say I have been really impressed by TJ's in their responsible " behavior " when it comes to disclosing ingredients over the phone. In the past, they have readily admitted that their " raw " honey was heated at a low heat to make it more pourable and that one of their products that did not appear to have gluten (based on the label) was not 100% gluten-free, etc. This is one company that I find knowledgable and reliable over the phone. > > I have a list of TJs products that I am investigating as to whether or not they are okay for SCD. I will post if I am able to get written confirmation, but I wonder this -- what if I get written confirmation and then 6 months later, they change their processing of the juice? If you read BTVC you would have found that is exactly what Elaine warned about. I found one and only one product that I ever got a letter for,an Ontario Organic Tomato Juice,Utopia by ville, and brought some to Elaine along with the letter. Carol F. Guest guest
Really the main products that are a concern are canned fruits and vegetables. Juices are admittedly in that category of being susceptibile to recipe and policy changes. As I first started SCD with my daughter in 2003, I know that Welch's grape and Dole pineapple had been used for many, many years without problems by people on SCD. I know that is no guarantee. Personally, I only give my daughter water with fresh lemon juice and honey added. If she liked to drink other kinds of juice (she doesn't), I would probably give her fresh home-juiced. I happen to own a juicer (a cheapo), so it would be quite easy for me. I wouldn't want to have to worry about trusting a manufacturer........ even one that's proven trustworthy over decades. Honey is not susceptibile in the same way.... labeled 100% pure honey, and labeled " filtered " is fine. For some reason, the labeling standards are different for honey, and not something we have to seek written confirmation on. Same goes for nut butters. Elaine always just specified we had to use the " all natural " type with only salt added. She was not suspicious or worried about nut butters. I wish I could ask her why.... it would be great to have her response on this entire issue right now, but this will just be one more of many, many times I've missed her input in the past 18 months. Anyway, without her around, we have to use our own common sense and make decisions for our family based on the best information we have. That's the best we can do. Patti Re: Trader Joes Juice I guess you would need to obtain letters from ALL companies to determine that ingredients haven't changed, including folks who sell products touted as SCD. Welch's, Dole Pineapple, All honey companies, etc. It seems like it would be an arduous task indeed.
Guest guest
No I'm all volunteer-ed out at this point in my life!!! - carolfrilegh wrote: > > Yes, that's why I am wondering about the ones listed on the website as legal -- does someone keep in touch with the companies to make sure they are still legal? > > - Good point, . Would you like to volunteer? There are only a few companies involved. Knudson, Kedem (who never replies),Tropicana, s, Welch's, Heinz and Dole (who does reply) Ypou can Google them for their email addresses or toll free phone numbers. Sorry, although I contact companies from time to time, I am unable to do this right now. Carol F. SCD 7 years, celiac --------------------------------- 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Guest guest
Yes, that was a great idea actually. I am going to use it for the TJ's products. Thanks for putting it together. - carolfrilegh wrote: > I had hoped by providing a template for a letter to companies, it would be easy for people to get their own validation. All one needs to do is fill in the blanks: 1. Name of the company 2. Name of the product 3. Signature Carol F. SCD 7 years, celiac --------------------------------- Now that's room service!
