Guest guest
Cathy, Whenever you post with a question like that, you really have got to remind us of how long she's been on the diet. I can't go back and search through the list to find out when she started... I have to have all that info right here in the current message. I'm not sure what might be going on with your daughter. I don't know if increasing the probiotic more rapidly would help or not. You have gone very slowly.... and I can't figure out how in the world you measure out one TWELVTH of a capsule! I would maybe try the electrolyte drink recipe (on www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info ... under " Knowledge Base " under " E " ), as it should help alkalinize her system and settle her tummy. Patti Going too slow with probiotics?Stomach pain/vomiting My daughter has had some stomach pain over the past month(it hasn't been too bad...it has always went away on its own). It worsened a bit over the past week, with vomiting this weekend. .It wasn't acid reflex. She is doing better today..no pain..just not hungry yet. I am wondering if this was die-off. I don't think it was a bug as there was no other symptoms besides being a bit tired. No one else in the family is sick. I started the probiotic capsule back up with her, the beginning of January slowly increasing it 1/12 of the capsule every 10 days or so. There has been some die-off for about 3 days or so,(ie. really tired, crying easily,..) every time after I increase the probiotic amount. She is up to 5/12 of the probiotic capsule daily. She also has been taking the full dose of Green pastures fermented cod liver oil for 6 weeks now. She is handling the probiotic very well this time. Is there such a thing as going too slow with the probiotics? Would increasing the probiotic , and not going so slow with it help with regards to stomach pain/vomiting? Thanks, Cathy
Guest guest
Sorry for not mentioning how long she as been on SCD. --Since august..2006. We stopped the probiotics just before Christmas, after being on a full capsule for about 1 month. I've been using the probiotic mixture as Mimi..suggested...1 capsule in 1/2 cup of water. 1 TB of the mixture equals 1/12 of the capsule. We have been using the electrolyte drinks.(she won't drink much of anything) Cathy > > Cathy, > > Whenever you post with a question like that, you really have got to remind us of how long she's been on the diet. Guest guest
Thanks, Cathy. I am really stumped then, as to what could be causing the stomach pain and vomiting. It sounds like you're doing everything right with the probiotic... and you feel she is tolerating it well? It sounds like you are sure she is. Is she better today.... as far as the pain and/or vomiting? Patti Re: Going too slow with probiotics?Stomach pain/vomiting Sorry for not mentioning how long she as been on SCD. --Since august..2006. Guest guest
Cathy, What probiotic are you using? Have you tried the GI prohealth one? Guest guest
Patti, I thought she was better this morning. No more vomiting since late saturday...but she smells awful, moderate pain, on and off...hasn't ate or drank much since sat afternoon...as it makes her stomach hurt...no fever...just looks tired(a bit dehydrated)...as she hasn't been eating or drinking much...popsicles even taste bad She has only felt this way in the past after eating something she was allergic to...but it never lasted for more than a day. ...Maybe it is just a virus that needs to run its course.... Guest guest
Mimi, I'm using Kirkmans...the legal one. We used the GI prohealth one in nov. I think the cellulose in it was too much for her. Kirkmans has much less in the capsule..I think It doesn't have cellulose in it. things like carbomethyl cellulose or even cellulose in Gf bread in the past were never tolerated by her. cathy > > Thanks, Cathy. > > > > I am really stumped then, as to what could be causing the stomach pain and > > vomiting. > > > > It sounds like you're doing everything right with the probiotic... and you > > feel she is tolerating it well? Guest guest
> > Thanks, Cathy. Patti, Don't be stumped .I have answers to this.. Stomach/pain vomiting was caused by 2 things. 1)I just found out from by daughter that she thinks she was glutenized at school last week...apparently their are things going on in the classroom that shouldn't be(lots of Playdoh.(flour).and no-one is washing now etc. .)...I told the teacher what was necessary to to keep my celiac daughter safe in the classroom...but I guess she forgot..she is a super reactor to small traces of gluten. I almost forget her signs of her being glutenized(I guess I was to busy thinking about die-off)..symetrical rashs, stomach pain(many days), constipation, floating bm's for a week or more(just started), she starts refusing to eat(she pretty much hyperventilated over a pork chop at lunch last week.!) I Almost forgot that nothing can make her stomach hurt for so long, and so bad ...nothing but traces of gluten. Her stomach still hurts...the only way I could get her to eat or drink anything(even just a sip) today was to medicate her...she really can't afford to loose more weight. 2) The stomach flu is the second culprit...I have it now...I've been pretty sick for the last 15 hrs. ..I had to get some meds for myself or it wasn't going to stop...My daughter was hardly sick at all on Saturday...compared to me. The only thing that makes sense is she was contaminated by gluten and she got the flu too. Guest guest
Cathy, OH, NO!! Not one hit.... but TWO! Yikes! I'm sorry you have to deal with the fallout of all of this, and being sick as a mom is just downright unfair..... I hope you are back to normal soon. At least now you know what's been going on..... you must be furious! Your daughter is certainly learning to be more aware of how she feels and what's probably caused it, isn't she? Best wishes for a quick turnaround for both of you. Patti Re: Going too slow with probiotics?Stomach pain/vomiting Patti, Don't be stumped .I have answers to this.. Guest guest
Patti, I'm fine today. It was a good thing my parents took my son overnight as I diffinetly couldn't of cooked for him yesterday. My daughter went to school today but she still is not eating, and drinking little..She still looks and smells bad. I have never seen her hit so badly with her stomach before. I wrote the teacher today ...surprisingly the Principal approached me in the hall at lunch and thanked me for the note... It looks like now they are going to take more measures to make her safer. It is sad that she has to get so sick before they listen! I kept her home at lunch time as I couldn't get her to eat. I really don't like medicating the kid, but I have to get her drinking and eating more. She is not in real pain anymore, but anything in her stomach hurts a bit. I'm sure everything will turn around in a couple of days... Take Care, Cathy > > Cathy, > > OH, NO!! Not one hit.... but TWO!
