Guest guest
Tammy, Why are you not trying the SCD yogurt? There are scientific studies that show that it helps with allergies and tolerance for new foods. Some kids cannot tolerate the carrrots well, maybe that is what is preventing your son from making better progress. How about supplements? Maybe he cannot tolerate them despite the fact that they are legal. Have you had him tested for Clostridia Dificile? You might need S boulardii to eliminate that. mimi > Hi guys, > > I have a 3.5 yr old son who has been on SCD for almost > two years (May) He is extremely allergic to most foods, > so with the extra limit of starches he only > has about 4 to 5 foods he can eat on a regular basis. > He has done really well over the last year due to diet, > ABA therapy and biomedical. Guest guest
Dearest One Tammy, The SCDiet does not have sweet potatoes and rice because they are starch and grain which can not be digested by so many of us. *Tell me where you live so that I may send you SCD Pals that have been on the SC Diet over a year to help you find the foods, stores, doctors, SCDiet information, get-togethers, exchange reicpes, and encouragement. We want your child to be healthy too. twigtam twigtam@... I have a 3.5 yr old son who has been on SCD for almost two years (May) He is extremely allergic to most foods, so with the extra limit of starches he only has about 4 to 5 foods he can eat on a regular basis. He has done really well over the last year due to diet, ABA therapy and biomedical. He has always had pretty severe eczema. His bowel movements got really formed and good looking for about a couple of months or so. Lately his skin has gotten bad again as well as the bowels. His yeast and bacteria have come way down since the beginning, although we still are a little high normal on the bacteria. However his hippuric has sky rocketed since SCD. I am concerned about him only eating a few foods for such a long period of time. He can eat sweet potatoes and rice, but of course they are not SCD legal. I am getting pressure (even from his doctor) to find more foods for him to eat (SCD or not) He hasn't gained enought weight over the past few months. He weighs about 35 lbs and has for a while. I know this group is for SCD support, and I completely 100% endorse this diet, I think it is phenomenal. But, I am beginning to question myself on not letting Peyton have food that would help him gain weight even though they are not SCD legal. He eats Turkey, butternut squash, carrots and pears with an occasional peach and rarely a fully ripened banana half. He only drinks water (he doesn't like the pear juice) and for the past 20 months he has only eaten cooked and peeled food. Only in the last month or so have I even let him eat a raw peeled pear. I believe in the diet, but am unfortunately having to consider going off for a while to see if Peyton will gain weight and maybe be able to rotate a few things. I would add in sweet potatoes and brown rice..... Any comments would be greatly appreciated. They should not be added until ONE YEAR AFTER THE LAST SYMPTOM IS GONE. Even then they could cause problems. Sheila is inactive for a while.
