Guest guest
n - can you please explain the difference between autogenic and active cycle breathing techniques? Are they alternate therapy methods for each other or would one normally use both? Thanks, M
Guest guest
The problem is, for some kids, like mine, manual percussion is less effective. was very unproductive with therapy, until they tried the vest on him. That worked great, and so does the flutter valve. Sounds like the Australian hospitals are being a bit narrow minded. Dori Ownbey... " If I haven't grown up by now, I'm never going to. Guest guest
never brought anything up in terms of mucus unless she was sick until we got the vest. ( And I was very vigorous with the manual pt) She doesn't bring up much now either but when we first got the vest she was productive for about a week or 2 until she really got rid of all the junk that was down in her lungs. I wonder if the vest and resultant productivity is part of the reason why we were able to get rid of PA (combined with the tobi being able to get into her lungs better because there was less junk). After all she was bringing up a lot of old stuff that was " down in there " at first with the vest. It just seems like there have been quite a few independent studies in the US that show that chest wall oscillation is at least as effective as manual pt...........I wonder how many independent studies have been done on it in Australia or any of the other countries where they are not using it. it would seem that they would want to investigate it fully with a large number of CF patients with varying degrees of productivity........... Just thinking out loud. vest vs physio The problem is, for some kids, like mine, manual percussion is less effective. was very unproductive with therapy, until they tried the vest on him. Guest guest
Sounds like the Australian hospitals are being a bit narrow minded. Hi, .... and the really open minded people skip that uncomfy CPT at all. :- )) We have stopped doing CPT six years ago and up to now we are happy with that decision. And we are even happier that there is now a piece of scientific " proof " , that we have done it right. Here's a recent mail from Val Hudson. Peace Torsten, dad of Fiona 6wcf I have read an interesting article in the most recent Pediatric Pulmonology: The article mentions research findings that " in a long term (30 month) study of the effects of a daily exercise program, CPT was removed after 12 months. Results indicated that the patients either maintained or improved their lung function after the removal of CPT. " The authors concluded that physical exercise should be the basis of pulmonary therapy in CF, and that these studies provide evidence that exercise is a viable alternative to CPT. Sincerely, VAL
