Guest guest
Could someone explain to me how long term disability through an employer affects Social Security benefits or vise versa. If you are on long term disability from work then get awarded SS - how much is the long term disability from an employer cut back if a person will be receiving both? I know there is a formula or something - but I am not sure if it is worthwhile to apply for both. Also, if a person has been on long term disability for say a year - and just recently the doctor has stated that you are now permanently disabled in his eyes - and you want to apply for SSDI - can you go back to the initial date your employer disability started for the date you first became disabled (like last year)? One more question, if you are on COBRA because of disability - is it for 18 months or 36 months (I thought I read somewhere that it was longer if you are disabled). And I think it might be true that if you have COBRA - you cannot at the same time have Medicare Part A & B - does anyone know the answer to this? Would Medicare be primary if you had it and were on your spouses insurance? Thanks for your help. Debbie ----Mich
