Guest guest
Peel and cut the zuccini and cook it well. Peel and cut the zuccini and fry it. Cook carrots, green beans, and zuccini. Then slice them into thin pieces. Stir fry them. Make apple or pear sauce by putting peeled and seeded apples or pears in the slow cooker. Make popsicles from apple and pear sauce. Bake chicken For the homemade gelatin - cut it into kid shapes Apple cider or grape juice (1/2 juice, 1/2 water) frozen into popsicles The broiled beef patty rolled into little kid size meatballs. From Vivian: " I bake a chicken or chicken pieces and eat them plain. I find the breast meat too dry, so I don't buy just breastmeat. Sometimes I take the cooked chicken meat off and make patties in the food processor - just chicken (including the skin - it's too dry without) egg, salt and pepper. Blend up and cook as patties in a little oil or butter. The leftovers from cooking (all the stuff in the bottom of the pan) can be used for an instant broth - just add salt and maybe a bit of water - great for when you are dying for a nice hot cup of...something! I find that organic chickens tend not to have too much fat and does not require that you take the fat off. (Also, the fat helps you to feel full). I also make patties the same way using beef mince. Or just cook up the mince in a pan with a little oil or water and you get a crumbly mixture which can be eaten anytime - hot or cold. Other things I use regularly are grilled mutton chops. " ------------------------------------------------------ I hope that other list members will share their recipes for the very first days of the diet. Guest guest
Sam, It may take a few days/weeks to get your kid used to eating new/different foods. I saw a video on YouTube where a dad explained that feeding your kid the same thing every day would help get them used to it .. he said his kid would puke on a new food and every day he had a little it went from puking, to gagging, to eating .. still didn't " love " the food, but he was eating it. In the beginning I'd server my kids liquified chicken soup .. everything was pureed. Didn't like it at first then they slowly drank it from a straw. Then I moved on to chicken pancakes: (since you don't use eggs) 2 bananas 1 chicken breast pinch of cinnamon (if you are comfortable using it) blend it up and throw it on a griddle .. it may be thick so you can add some water if you need to. I'd form that or cut it into the shape of bread/or some fun shape and throw peanut butter and honey (again if you can use those) or other legal sandwich foods on it with some legal fruits or veggies. Hope that helps for a day or so. Really my kids eat the same thing daily except I try to change the " form " of the foods.
Guest guest
Hi Sam, << I hope that other list members will share their recipes for the very > first days of the diet. > Mimi >> Although avocado (raw) is listed in stage 2 I was able to tolerate cooked avocado early. I would blend 1/2 a ripe avocado with ground chicken in the food processor and make meat patties or meatballs. With chicken they turned out green so I told my kids they were martian burgers. If you also made some burgers/meatballs with cooked carrots and ground chicken they'd turn kind of orangey (unless you can find the red carrots). Then you'd have red (orange) and green meatballs. Festive for the Christmas season. I had them with a little homemade mayonnaisesince I didn't tolerate ketchup. I also made avocado buns with eggs (half avocado blended with 1 egg and panfried like pancakes in a bun size). Guest guest
Thank you Sheila, Wonderful idea I'll try the avacado chihken meatballs today. I have a few questions.... 1] Can we use the vegetables and fruits (cooked) from stage 2 in the intro diet if we have no diarrhia. 2] My son has no diarrhia now, so can we use a lentil ....or does it have bad starches in it. II know it is legal in the end of the diet but can we use it in the beginning or will it help the bacteria to grow. Thanks . Guest guest
Hi Sam, << 1] Can we use the vegetables and fruits (cooked) from stage 2 in the intro diet if we have no diarrhia. >> You can go ahead and add in the peeled and cooked fruits and vegetables that are listed in stage 2 on the Beyond the intro diet chart but they are just that...they are all foods that are *Beyond* the intro. The intro should only be done for a MAXIMUM of 2-5 days. I'm not yelling but sometimes this important information often gets lots in the sea of SCD info. Some people end up staying on the intro for weeks and wonder why they experience extreme fatigue etc. Also although we do recommend to do the intro for 2-5 days some people just cannot do it at all -their children will not eat any of the intro diet foods. In that case they start with whatever foods the child will eat that are the easiest and most basic foods on the diet. Another thing to think of is that with the intro diet it need be done for only two days to get that *headstart* in killing off the harmful microbes. During those two days the person can eat as much of any of the foods that are on the intro. Some eat the chicken soup for the entire time others just stick to meatballs and carrots for their snacks and meals. It isn't a healthy thing to do long term but for the short time period it provides some nutrition to the person while starving out the nasties. Summing up your options: 1. do the intro as is for 2-5 days. eating whatever he will from the list of intro foods 2. start the intro and if you get half a day or only one day go with that. 3. skip the intro and start the diet with foods that you know your child are more likely to consume. Bottom line, the most important thing is to cut out the SCD illegal sugars and starches (etc.) this will ultimately starve out the harmful microbes. << 2] My son has no diarrhia now, so can we use a lentil ....or does it have bad starches in it. II know it is legal in the end of the diet but can we use it in the beginning or will it help the bacteria to grow. >> I would strongly caution against using even a properly prepared SCD lentil at this point for your child. It is quite likely that there is still substantial overgrowth of harmful microorganisms and if your child isn't ready to digest the more complex components of the cooked lentils it will feed the nasties. The legal lentils when properly prepared don't have " bad starches " but they do have specific carbohydrates that are more complex than the easier to digest foods listed in the first stages of the Beyond the intro chart. After sufficient healing has occured these complex carbs should be fine for your son to digest on the diet.
