Guest guest
Hi Bethany, If the food allergies/sensitivities show up in tests.... and not necessarily with observable symptoms, it sounds to me like that is probably due to a really damaged/leaky gut. We have found that many of the SCD kids have lost a lot of their food sensitivities as the gut heals. It will be up to you whether or not to completely avoid those foods she tests positive for..... but of course, you will permanently avoid any food she has ever had an anaphylactic reaction to. Yes! Candex and Candidase are legal on SCD. I think the enyzme approach is a great one. GSE is legal, but is one that I think should be rotated.... so yeast don't become resistant. Caprylic acid is not my favorite, but it's legal.... as long as you check out the label for " other ingredients " and double check that against our list on the website, www.pecanbread.com . Click " Supplements " , then you'll see a list of legal and illegal supplement additives. Sometimes there are hidden illegals in flavorings or sweeteners. It's just my personal opinion/preference, but I sort of wish parents would use pure, virgin coconut oil instead of caprylic acid... just for cooking and adding to foods. That's what caprylic acid comes from.... but I like the idea of the pure oil as a food. You can cook with it... it's great for that because it holds up so well to heat and it's just a good source of the MCTs and has anti-fungal properties. My favorite is Nature's Way EFA Gold, pure extra-virgin, organic coconut oil. It has a nice taste and smell. Valtrex definitely has illegals in it..... so you would need to think that over before starting SCD. It is really not compatible.... and I don't think it can be compounded. I'm sure lots of the kids have viruses lurking in their bodies.... but I think I personally prefer to see them get healthy on the diet.... get the leaky gut healed..... and use natural antivirals (enzymes and coconut oil both can be anti-viral as well.... and there are other things that you can add in). I'm sure the hyperness and anxiety tends to make YOU a little stressed out and anxious, too, doesn't it? My daughter has had issues with irritability over the years (she is not an ASD child... she has CP, dev. delays and epilepsy)... and I know it's always worse when her digestive tract is not working smoothly. best, Patti Re: Can anyone offer me some hope??? Dear Patti, Thanks so much for replying.. Yes, she has always been hyper...It is nothing new.. She gets plenty of magnesium and I do give her the epsom salt baths. She is allergic or intolerant to many foods at least according to the comphrehensive food panel test through Great Plains. We though by just going GFCF that it would help. We don't do prescription anti-fungals but I give her GSE and caprylic acid as well as Candex and Candiese. Are these products legal on the SCD diet? WE have only done 3 rounds of chelation. SO we are not that for along... The doc also wants to start her on Valtrex ... He thinks she has some viral issues. She has never had a fever or ever been sick!! She does have allergies and eczema though... I just want to find something to help her settle down. She is such a sweet little girl and the hyperness, anxiety and, sensory issues really get in the way.... Guest guest
Just wanted to throw in my two cents about the Valtrex. It definitely isn't legal, and cannot be compounded for SCD. We used it for a month. We stopped it on Feb. 2nd, and switched to Virastop(antiviral enzyme) which is SCD legal. We stopped the Valtrex primarily for financial reason(paying out of pocket, yikes!). Our DAN said that Virastop is an excellent natural antiviral though...kind of wondering why she didn't have us try that then, but whatever. It's good to start a digestive enzyme for a couple of weeks before the Virastop though. Then, you start with a small amount of Virastop(maybe 1/2 capsule, although we started with a whole one) and work your way up. Meleah Re: Can anyone offer me some hope???
