Guest guest
Silvia, How about meat? How about olives? I recommend olives without any preservatives. Health food sores sell brands without any fillers. The plain olives produced by Santa Barbara are great. See if you need to cook the olives first. I am not sure if olives need to be cooked during the early days of the diet. How about goat cheeses that have been aged since you are not eating meat? BTW, www.digestivewellness sells almond butter without any skin. Guest guest
i think chicken is giving her some itching. we've never tried olives but that's a great idea - they're portable, too! is it easy to find aged goat cheese? is there a brand name i should look for? thanks for the tips : ) > Silvia, > > How about meat? Guest guest
Silvia, You should start with nut BUTTERS rather than nut flours, if it's causing loose stools. If you're seeing undigested bits of anything else in her stool (spinich? green beans?), it could just be that she isn't chewing thoroughly enough. Ravenous hunger is common in the beginning. It should temper over time. For a drink, I would suggest fresh lemon juice in water.... sweetened with saccharin, since you feel honey might be causing a problem. Have you thought about natural anti-fungals or some of the anti-yeast enzymes? Patti undigested food in stools we've been on this diet 5 weeks and i'm looking for some new foods to try. what we're eating so far is--- breakfast: fruit puree (banana, apple, pineapple, or peach) with 2T goat yogurt AND egg or broiled spinach beef burgers snack: banana or avocado lunch: baked squash fries, green beans, or artichokes with homemade mayo snack: applesauce dinner: same as breakfast we've tried pecan and almond butter in muffins but both times she had mushy stools with grains visible in them. with the almond ones, i didn't realize we were supposed to use blanched almonds so i guess it could have been the skins. with the pecans i put raisin pieces in them and cooked raisins are not until stage 3. we don't drink juice because even undiluted juice makes her eczema itch. so jello is out. i think honey makes her itch as well. i was using unfiltered honey though and now i've bought some sue bee brand and will try that next time. but, i know she has yeast issues so i wonder if just any amount of sweet thing, aside from cooked fruit, is too much for her right now. also we react to cow's milk with sinus congestion, headaches, and allergy shiners. i'm not eating cow dairy for now. she also gets itchy with carrots. i'm feeling desperate for a new ingredient to introduce - something that will be filling, like nuts. here are my questions: does anyone have any menu suggestions? we are hungry all the time and eating the same things over and over again. secondly, when i see grains in her stool, does that mean the nuts were the culprit, or does the real culprit make the entire meal indigestible? thanks in advance! silvia 2 yo with eczema, SCD 5 weeks
Guest guest
when i made my almond and pecan butters, i put the nuts in the food processor and let it spin until the blades were no longer contacting the food. it was a butter at that point, but i'm thinking now if it looked grainy in her stool than maybe it needed to go longer. should the nut butter look completely uniform, like when you buy it from the store? i'm sure mine still looked grainy. can you please point me to where i'd find more info about natural anti fungals and yeast enzymes? thanks! silvia > Silvia, > > You should start with nut BUTTERS rather than nut flours, if it's > causing loose stools. Guest guest
I think it's nearly impossible to get smooth enough nut butter at home with a food processer. Pecan butter HAS to be made at home, though..... since as far as I know, you can't buy it anywhere. I think you almost have to use a blade-type coffee grinder for that. Some families keep one that is dedicated for grinding spices and nuts.... not coffee. They're only about $20. I just think it's pretty hard to get it smooth enough otherwise, for a beginner to use. It seems like it would almost be easier on the gut to go ahead and use pecan flour... such as the one you can buy from Digestive Wellness. www.digestivewellness.com It's pretty finely ground. You should definitely buy almond butter..... MUCH smoother than you could ever make at home, unless you had a grinder. Natural antifungals..... Some supplements would be Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE by Nutribiotic is good), Oil of Oregano, Olive Leaf Extract (OLE). These need to be started slowly.... and rotated. They also need to be given away from any probiotics or yogurt. Pure coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities.... and it works great for cooking. Stands up well to heat. My personal favorite is Nature's Way EFA Gold Organic Extra Virgin coconut oil. (No, I don't work for them... I just like the product.) Anti-yeast enzymes..... Candex and Candidase are two that I can think of. Both are SCD legal, though Candex contains cellulose as a filler, which might be a problem for some people. Candidase has zero fillers. These enzymes have to be taken in between meals, on an empty stomach. I am not sure how this would work for a child who can't swallow capsules. I would personally always have to open caps and mix the contents into food.... but my understanding is that the anti-fungal enzymes are supposed to be taken apart from ANY food. Maybe just one spoonful of applesauce or something is okay.... but I honestly don't know. You can buy both of these products at a lot of natural foods stores.... or your favorite online supplement store. My fave happens to be www.iherb.com (I have zero financial interest in the site or any products they carry!). I checked there just now, and they have both of these products. I'm know they also have GSE, OLE, coconut oil and Oil of Oregano, too.... just be sure to read the WHOLE label on each product before you buy to be sure there's no illegals added. One reason I really like iHerb is because they always show ALL of the labeled ingredients. Many websites don't. They also have really low prices, good shipping rates, and reliable customer service.
