Guest guest
My son has had yellow hands and feet at times. Right now he has yellow hands. His doc has said it is beta carotene. It can be a sign of low thyroid. has had thyroid replacement (Armour thyroid) and now T3. He is still having yellow hands. His last thyroid study was normal (comparatively). I certainly think it shows something is not quite right. Evidently he is not processing beta carotene well. He has done this everytime he has been off wheat and on Nu-Thera. I am hoping to follow up on this with a genetics appointment & /or his DAN. I have heard about this happening for ASD kids getting off grains, but have not heard why. , mom to , ASD, SCD 9/06 --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for letting me know about the thyroid factor. That is very interesting. The yellow hands might be due to an increased consumption of beta carotene and a problem with the thyroid. I once ate lots of carrots and got " orange hands " . I think that one important factor is the amount of carrots or other beta carotene produce being consumed. After eliminating grains, many kids would increase their consumption of vegetables and fruits. That might produce an increase of beta carotene in the body and result in orange or yellow hands. Guest guest
I don't know about the yellow hands, but I would verify the thyroid panels with basal body temp yourself -- it's more accurate than the blood work. Maybe there is still a sub-clinical thyroid problem. - Jim & Carfagno wrote: My son has had yellow hands and feet at times. Right now he has yellow hands. His doc has said it is beta carotene. Guest guest
I have been told by several doctors that if your child is consuming a large quantity of orange fruits and vegetables that their skin will turn an orangeish tint and that it is completely normal. My boys eat a lot of butternut and acorn squash daily and used to eat lots of sweet potatoes (Before SCD) and carrots. They have spent many long days in the sun in the south and have NEVER had a sun burn. Of course for some kids there may be other factors involved but it could also just be the large amount of orange veggies being consumed and that should not pose a problem.
