Guest guest
My children that I adopted from Africa came to us with a scalp fungus. The doctor prescribed some cream to rub on their heads, and it went away. If it is a fungus, it is contagious, so I would use the cream if I were you. scalp problems hi my sons been scd now 6 months has any one got some ideas how to clear his flaky scalp,he has suffered with this problem for years now it did seem to clear up the first couple of months on diet but its been back now the doctor prescibed some medical shampoo but i did not want to use this as it has a lot of harsh chemicaLS IN IT.has any one else experenced this and is there any natural product......ive read that it could be fungal scalp....................... Guest guest
My daughter had a bout with flakey, scaley patches on her scalp recently. I rubbed pure virgin coconut oil into them..... left it on for a couple of hours, then washed her hair really well. Had to lather twice to get the oil out. This cleared it up pretty quickly.... and coconut oil is a great hair conditioner. If the flakiness was caused by a fungus, coconut oil would probably be effective on it, because of it's antifungal properties. Guest guest
Hi My son had the same problem a while ago. I used Nizoral shampoo on him for 2 weeks and his scalp became dry and more flaky. When I switched to coconut oil, it improved by 50% overnight and it just got better and better. It also makes his scalp supple. I've tried tea tree oil and several other home remedies and saw no effect. I finally broke down and got over the counter antifungal cream. Also, if you think it's worth a try, should I do the vco or would regular co work. -Sharon in OH
Guest guest
I think if I was dealing with ringworm, I'd get the medication. Virgin coconut oil is supposed to be more effective on fungal and other infections. I don't know about topically, but I know I would not recommend that anyone eat anything other than virgin or extra virgin. Patti Re: scalp problems Do you think coconut oil would work for ringworm. Guest guest
My younger son had that problem too and it would clear up temporarily with coconut oil but return. When I really focused on getting his Vitamin A levels up by using high-vitamin cod liver oil, the flakes went away permanently. So I believe it's a Vitamin A deficiency that causes that dandruff, which makes sense because Vitamin A is important for healthy skin and mucosla surfaces. > > My daughter had a bout with flakey, scaley patches on her scalp recently. Guest guest
My son has had a very itchy flakey scalp for about a year now. When you mentioned this I realized that he has not been itching his head at all for several days. He has been eating a lot of butternut squash and carrots, and we've been using cod liver oil. I think you might be right about the Vitamin A thing. Just an interesting observation. We see our DAN / naturopath doctor tomorrow for our first meeting, but that was one of the questions on the intake form - the itchy scalp thing. Will be interesting to see his take on that.
