Guest guest
If he's sick, you should probably wait to begin the diet in full..... although I firmly believe there is no time like the present to remove grains and sugar. Yes, you can give the paracetamol for fever.... but if it's in a children's preparation/liquid, it will undoubtedly have sugar, starch, dyes and preservatives. I always use an adult tablet, and cut it in half if need be.... to get the appropriate dosage in milligrams that my daughter would take.... then grind up the tablet and mix in applesauce or honey. There is still some starch present.... but not nearly as much. When a child is SICK, or has some other condition for which a medication is necessary, Elaine Gottschall always said we should go ahead and give the med, even if a trace of starch is unavoidable. Many medications can be specially compounded for future use, but if he's sick NOW and has a high fever, you can go ahead with what you have. Personally, I don't treat fevers unless they go unusually high. Fever is the body's way of fighting off viruses and bacteria.... it's the immune system doing what it's suppose to do! If we always suppress every little fever a child gets, it's really not allowing their immune system to fully respond and develop properly. That is my opinion, and is not part of SCD protocol. Patti Gastoentiritis - good or bad time to start diet Hi, I posted earlier to day, but our situation has changed once again. My son has now developed gastroentiritis, and is asleep in bed with temperature. We've done the diet for a day, abut I'm sure he's reacted to the digestive enzymes we gave him (as this has happened before). Is it a good time to pursue the diet, or should I give him what he wants until he is back on his feet. At the moment he is turning down my intro diet of meat balls and butternut squah.??? Also, can I give him paracetamol, or give him nothing for the temperature? All the best

I will tell you that meatballs are a little rough for a very sore stomach! We did great with homemade chicken broth, applesauce (very easy to make- easier than meatballs), pearsauce, and bananas, eggs, liquids - we found club soda diluted with some juice felt very good! My daughter was able to move on after 2 days- I have taken about 4 but am doing much better and moved on to some new fruits and baked chicken and roast is great now as well- put the roast or chicken in foil in oven on a low temp and bake for designated time- sealing in the juices makes the meat a little more tender. I have also found that the organic meats seem to be a little more tender! Good Luck!
Guest guest
Hi Pete Sorry that your boy is sick with gastro .We are in southern Ireland our boy with autism had gastro last week-like everyone else in the house. He had vomiting and diarrhoea plus temp of 102 he was sick for 48 hours. We tried to avoid the paracetamol if we could so light clothing plus sheet in the bed and we cooled him with tepid cloth.(Old vest -across kidneys tummy etc) this went on during the night and was hard. But the temp did come down only you can decide if this might work for your boy.You do not want the temp to go too high. Our boy has been on diet for about 3 1/2 months plus. While he was sick I found that a good time to do the intro diet with him.because he wasn't able to eat much (tummy queasy) and that consisted of chicken broth over the two days and a little squash in it as well a pinch of sea salt makes it tasty. If you can get the hard coconut oil a teaspoon of that will give a little flavour if needs be. The other thing we found with the butternut squash was that if you cooked it with raisins or pineapple it tasted better. Please note that organic raisins are coated with canola oil.(it wont say this on the label) on the pecan regarding canola site it says legal but not recommended. At the moment you should give your son stewed pear cooked with lots of water and add a spoon of honey to it when cooled down.He should like this. If your child is off butter you can use the coconut oil instead in recipes. Also look at the pecan diet for the recommended stages for introducing the different foods. http://www.pecanbread.com/new/begindiet1.html http://www.pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#beyond For my guy most days for dinner consists of squash ,meat ,with a little pineapple or raisins and cooked cucumber digestive enzymes plus no- phenol for breakfast variations on avocado sprinkle of sea salt plus oil.Sometimes -chicken broth. -stewed pear. -pretzel or muffin (cranberry or blueberry) -Banana fritter (nice and easy to cook- beat four eggs mash in two bananas and a half cut of dessicated coconut mix altogether and cook in spoon of coconut oil) these are very tasty. pineapple (called coconut temptation in book scd with taste and tradition) 6 slices of pineapple a few inches apart on a baking sheet.Pre heat oven to 450 degrees f beat white of egg with pinch of salt until stiff.slowly add half cup of honey and then 3/4 of a cup of shredded coconut spoon that mixture over the pineapple on the parchment paper or baking sheet.Bake for 10 minutes or until coconut is lightly browned.Make sure the pineapple slices are well drained before you start otherwise it will come out soggy or indeed just mash bananas (skin with brown spots) wishing you all the best and your son a quick recovery.
