Guest guest
, Are you seeing a die off reaction? What are you feeding your son? What supplements or probiotics are you giving him? Some kids do not show the symptoms of die off but do well with SCD. My son had bad initial symptoms that lasted for about 2 weeks. However, he loves SCD now and is doing great with the diet. Please read more about the temporarysymptoms.: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/temporarysymptoms.html Mimi > Hi I'm new to this group and to scd. Guest guest
Hi Mimi No i don't think i'm seeing any die off. I'm doing all the scd recipes with less honey than they call for. He is a big bread man. doesn't eat meat, veggies, or fruits. i was hoping i could starve him into trying these foods, but he's more stubborn than i. so scd pancakes, muffins, and waffles is what he has been eating all week. he is on diflucan, and hasn't started his probi. yet. we are slowly starting a few new supps. he started with having normal poops that looked grainy. Now lastnight, very bad diahres. any advice? > > , > > Are you seeing a die off reaction? > What are you feeding your son? > What supplements or probiotics are you giving him? > > Some kids do not show the symptoms of die off but do well with SCD. Guest guest
, Your son is pretty new to the diet to be eating a lot of baked goods with nut flour. Nut flour will definitely loosen the stool. Have you tried the chicken pancakes recipe on www.pecanbread.com? Many a carb-loving kid has gobbled these up, not even realising they are actually eating meat. They LOOK very bread-like, even though they contain only pureed chicken breast and eggs. Take a look at the recipe... there's even a photo on the website, so you can see what they look like. Smothered with a honey-butter syrup, they can be quite acceptable to the pancake crowd. Also, have you tried the banana pancakes? They are amazingly good. I like to make them small.... silver dollar sized. They flip easier. If you really want to use some of the recipes that call for nut flour, you can substitue nut BUTTER, which is a bit easier to digest than nut flour, just b/c it's smoother. I am wondering if the Diflucan has illegals in it? How long has he been on it? Was that started at the same time as the diet, roughly? I have had quite a few families experience a huge yeast rebound after using Rx antifungals, so I try to transition them to rotating natural antifungals with no illegals. Are you sure all of your supplements legal? I really find that many kids do much better when they get well established on the diet on as few supplements as possible in the beginning.... and then add them in very carefully, one at a time (legal ones only!!), after a couple of MONTHS on SCD. Diarrhea *can* be a sign of die-off, by the way..... just one of the symptoms. Not everyone experiences it the same way. Tell me exactly what he's eating and how it's prepared. Did you do the Intro Diet? Patti, list moderator Re: die off Hi Mimi No i don't think i'm seeing any die off. I'm doing all the scd recipes with less honey than they call for. Did you start with 1/8 of a teaspoon? How rapidly did you increase to the current serving size? The following is from our Yogurt link on the Pecanbread website: When am I ready to start the yogurt? When the initial die off reaction to SCD has subsided and things are stable so that you can gauge the reaction to the yogurt. This delay is only for children who were casein free prior to SCD. Children who were eating dairy before SCD can start consuming the yogurt right away. What dose should I give? For a child who is very sensitive to dairy, you should start out with less than a 1/8 of a teaspoon. There is a huge difference between a 1/8 of a teaspoon and a 1/4 of a teaspoon. Some children will not tolerate 1/4 of a teaspoon but will do fine with a 1/8 of a teaspoon. Try to remember that the yogurt is a powerful medication and should be introduced very gradually. Some children will not tolerate any amount. For those children it might be better to wait a few more months. Carol F. Guest guest
we started on day 12 with goat yogurt, 1/4tsp. and increased to where we are now, 2T, at 7 weeks. i didn't see any problems until now, when i tried 3T. we never saw any of this aggressive behavior - our daughter is a very calm child. i'll stay longer on the 2T and increase by a much smaller amount when i feel the time is right. thanks for the yogurt info. silvia > >> >> i increased my daughter's goat yogurt from 2T to 3T (twice a day), >> five days ago. during that time she's been having more tantrums, >> anger, frustration, screaming, etc. >> >> i just figured it out today after looking at my journal. also, today >> she had a BM that was very similar to the ones she had in the first >> couple of days on the intro diet - black and tar-like. i'm assuming >> this means the aggressive behavior WAS die off, from the increased >> yogurt. >> >> my question is: should i continue with the increased dose since it's >> causing die off and die off is desirable? if i do, will the >> aggression soon subside? or should i go back to 2T? >> > Sylvia, > When did you inroduce the yogurt?
