Guest guest
I am on both methadone and oxycodone for breakthrough pain. They work well togeather. 20mg in the morning and night with 10-20mg every four hours of oxycodone for breakthrough. The only issue I have is I get really sleepy but I think that is from the other meds I am taking or the combination of meds. Hope this helps.. Guest guest
, I take methadone and also use oxycodone (Not OxyIR) for breakthrough medication. Unlike OxyIR, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes for the oxycodone to take effect. It works very well for me when I have the extra pain most of the time, though there have been a few times that it wasn't enough. The amount I take is only 5mg up to 6 per day and since I don't need it every day, I don't get any withdrawls from it. As far as I can tell, the methadone hasn't blocked the analgesic affect of any other pain medication. When I'm in the hospital I used to take demerol and now fentanyl with no decrease in effect. I've been on methadone for about 3 years now and though I've had to increase my dose over time, I've been on my current dose for almost a year and it's still working good for me. I hope this is of some help to you. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Note: All advice given is personal opinion, not equal to that of a licensed physician or health care professional. Guest guest
Hey Kimber I have just been put on methadone 5mg.s for break through pain. It make my stomach turn into knots and I throw up even with anti nasaua meds.. My pain Doc won't hear of anything but the methadone. I also have an interfecal pump with didlaudid pumping up my spine. Does this sound normal for the methadone. Right now I am in pain and can't handle the suffering. There are very few pain Docs where I live, this guy scares me, since he won't listen to me. I just spent 11/2 weeks in the hospital; with a major blood infection because of my Hickman. I am just miserable.
Guest guest
Paget, no throwing up and having your stomach in knots is NOT normal. You are probably having an adverse reaction to the medication. If your doctor is unwilling to change the meds despite this reaction, I would look for a different doctor, even if you have to travel a bit to get one. I'm so sorry that you are feeling so badly. I wish I could help more than just to give some advice. Consider yourself hugged (gently of course). Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
