I was told this originally too, but then when I mentioned it to 's

doc he told me that sometimes the poop has gas trapped in it, that will make it

float. He said that I should look at both color and the float factor. if it

is dark brown but floats, it's probably just gassy poop, but if it is light in

color and floats then it is probably fatty...........it was a lovely

conversation to have!

But what if it is light and doesn't float?? Is it still OK?? Deb A

Deb,

Poop changes color depending on what is eaten recently -- or even days ago.

Even if lighter poop sinks, if her

stools are consistently light, you may want to have her liver enzymes checked

and a GI work up to rule out

liver or gall bladder duct obstruction, gall stones, etc. (Is this the same

daughter that has been complaining of

tummy pain?)

Kim,

Well they both were complaining of stomach aches but now my oldest is and my

youngest is not. My oldest for the last two day is telling me that it hurt

mostly on the left side. Any ideas??? Deb A

Good post, but I did not contribute to it--It says good things, but I did not

write any part of it, and do not have a --thankyou, n

I was told if it is light and sinks it is probably just because of food coloring

or the food eaten (a lot of carrots will give the orange color, a lot of sweet

potatoes or squash give that orange-yellowcolor.......)

The post quoted is not mine; someone else did post the same ideas, but

not me. I am aware that eating meat makes the stool darker, however.

I forget who posted the original question but it had to do with floating vs.

sinking. I answered about the trapped gas. I don't know why it keeps saying

that it came from you though???? Maybe because we are both poopologists!
